My Thai wife is currently advising the UK ladies hubby, who is already down there now, on what he should be doing with the hospital, she knows a lot about hospitals. I am sure her help is appreciated. I know if I was stuck in a foreign hospital, I would be grateful for any friendly assistance. Reiterate other posters comments about hoping everyone has a speedy recovery. #27Posted 2011-08-28 18:32:39
Just a quick update for British subjects, the Foreign office & their representative have been involved & at hand.
From what I can gather 5 British injured, 3 hospitalised. Sorry can't comment on other nationalities as I do not have that information. Wishing all a speedy recovery. #28Posted 2011-08-28 19:34:26
Sad to hear all of this. Good luck and fast recoveries to all the injured, and the scared witless too. Gone with Julie several times. She takes the job seriously. She is a reasonable driver herself, but doesn't always drive. Her mate is not bad in comparison to most of the mini van drivers I have ridden with. But the roads to tend to make any trip a nail biter. It's the OTHER people doing the unexpectedly STUPID move, that always causes the butt to clench, till the dangers gone. I try to drive myself with no deadline to meet. No pressure to be back at any time. Oops missed a ferry, no prob, it's run in the morning too. Well hope the injured recover and people make their runs this week. I have also gone with Julie's and second everything said in this post. It fits my own experiences and and preferences as far as border runs.Good luck to Julie and everyone else involved. #29Posted 2011-08-28 19:40:01

I have deleted an off topic post. I will again mention that at this stage, circumstances leading to that event are not clear .
There is no need at all to hijack the thread & start laying blame & insinuations when NO ONE knows the facts. Let us just concentrate on the welfare of the people, which is what this topic is all about. Thank You. #31Posted 2011-08-29 15:46:58
I have just spoken to Julie myself who told me the minibus did not lose control in the rain, a lorry, who was out of control, hit them from behind sending them into the central reservation. The lorry then left the scene. Julie's husband was driving and could have in no way have avoided the accident, it is worth mention that this is the first incident Julie's visa run has had in seven years. The mini bus had slowed down from 100k to 80 as they came to a corner, the lorry did not slow down until it was too late, skidded and thumped into them from behind.
There are several nasty injuries that include one man in a coma, a lady with internal bleeding in her head, a lady with a broken neck, a man with a fractured back and Julie herself that has facial fractures and a broken shoulder and her husband who has broken legs. While Julie is more than happy to take calls from family and friends of the passenger please be aware that she is trying to co-ordinate a lot f insurance claims and help her customers so she needs her phone line to be available and not taken up by people that are not connected to the passengers and are just curios to find out what happened and worse abusive text messages and phone calls from those not involved or in receipt of the correct facts. If anybody needs more information then please let me know and I will contact Julie #32Posted 2011-08-29 15:57:44

I will do, for sure, I don't want to post the names of the injured on here to protect their privacy but I will keep you posted and friends can just send me a message for individual updates.

Hi My name is Paul and I an the uncle of the injured chap (head injusry in a coma) who was involved in the minibus accident this weekend. Many thanks Paul #37Posted 2011-08-30 08:58:19
Paul a couple of suggestions that might help you, send your sister a e-mail she should read and tell her to buy a local sim card then easy contactable. As for your nephew someone on here should know what hospital they are in once you know then you can call direct to hospital. Thailand has excellent mobile phone coverage.

I've been on many minivan border runs from different areas in Thailand and Julie's is by far the best service I have ever been on and the only one I have recommended to friends to use when on Samui.
Hope you're all well soon guys and gals... #43Posted 2011-09-06 23:33:37

Fundraiser for Ryan Marven Dear All, This coming Saturday the Emerald Bar in central Fishermans Village will be holding a Fundraising event in honour of Ryan Marven who was tragically involved in a road accident whilst on his visa run. For those who do not know, Ryan, unfortunately suffered major head injuries & has been in a coma since the accident & therefore requires 24 hour care in an ICU unit on the mainland (Hat Yai). The medical bills for this are... very steep & it seems the company whose services he used do not have the insurance to cover his care. In addition to this his own insurance also does not cover the extent of the care he requires at this time to keep him stable until he wakes up...... We therefore urge you all to come along & to dig deep in your pockets to help his partner: Rie Richardson, his mum: Karen Hatch & all his family to give him the care that he needs..... Many prominent businesses on the island have been very charitable to offer up the following prizes & all will be available either through raffle or auction. They are as follows: ** BEACH REPUBLIC ** 2 Nights in a suite inc b'fast (2 ppl) ** BEACH REPUBLIC ** Dinner voucher to the value or 2,500 tbh ** KC RESORT ** 2 Nights inc dinner (2 ppl) ** KI ORA CATAMARAN ** Sunset Cruise for 2 inc food & drink (2 ppl) ** Dr FROGS ** Dinner for 2 ** ANG THONG MARINE PARK ** Day trip for 2 inc eve dinner (Emerald) (2 ppl) ** ARK BAR ** 2 Nights inc dinner (2 ppl) ** ICE BAR ** Free Entry & drinks (Value TBC) (2 ppl) ** LORDS BAR ** Sunday Lunch/Dinner inc bottle of wine (2 ppl) ** BONDI BAR ** 1,500 Dinner Voucher ** SAMUI PIER ** Dinner for 2 ** With many more prizes to be confirmed on the night ** It will be a good night for a good cause in aid of a great man! We look forward to seeing you all there with heavy pockets For those who are unable to attend on Saturday but would like to make a donation Rie's sister has recently set up a pay pal account. This is a personal account which will be used until an official account can be set up, again all donations will be warmly appreciated. I agree with you if this company does not have the appropriate insurance coverage for carriage of passengers it should be avoided. I assume the post from Boater is correct it's only a facebook page so might not be correct.

It just amazes me that someone runs a service like this yet doesn't have, nor think about getting good insurance coverage.I sure hope a civil suit can be filed on behalf of the injured.
I hope everyone comes out of this OK. #50Posted 2011-09-07 09:07:37
Amazing, no insurance to cover passengers......and a cover up accident.......what next!
Feel very sorry for all people involved and I hope Ryan makes a full recovery. |
