Why didn't you make three consecutive posts at that time claiming it was off-topic rather than all those posts supposedly finding fault with what Norman was saying? I was just being a nice guy and explained why the statement is wrong. Here's a link to the post:
"Greg Norman is great player, but even he needs to learn the difference between where you strike the ball and your perception of the steepness in your swing. Two completely different things.
It is more or less impossible to hit the top quadrant of the golf ball and despite Greg Normans playing ability - even he cant hit the top quadrant with a wedge."

Thank you for pointing that out, since it is the first mention of top quadrant hitting WITH A WEDGE, and you made it.
Norman never made the claim. You are the one that brought it up in the first place.
I'll say this much for you...you never let the truth get in the way of what you believe.

Correct. Kenny555:s original question was " How do these pro's manage to spin the ball back so far, is it: the ball? is it the hardness of the green? or is it how they hit the ball, do these players have different grooves on their clubs" Here's a link to that post:

I was kind enough to provide a perfectly accurate description of the parameters that are important to be aware of if you want to spin the ball " far". I am presuming kenny555 meant with his shorter irons or wedges. If you read the article you'll find that Norman himself says "the shot should not be a long one. Since you need a fair amount of loft, don't try this shot with any club longer than a 7-iron." Here's a link to the article:

Just to give you an idea of the physics and mechanics involved, a modern 7-iron has about 35 degrees of loft. http://www.titleist....s/irons/MB.aspx In order to hit the top back quadrant of the ball, you are required to hit the ball with a -1 degree effective loft. To achieve this you need to de-loft your 7-iron 36 degrees. THIRTY SIX! In order to do that would have to hit the ball when your hands are roughly 55cm ahead of the ball. I'm sure you are beginning to see how ridiculous this statement is. And trust me, you are not going to create the spin required to suck a ball back. Not at all. As I have described in detail, it is friction that creates spin. and a ball struck at this angle is not going to create any friction at all. Here's the link:

You have obviously mistaken me for somebody that gives a shit. I simply need to know how far to hit it and then I select the proper club. For instance if I have 190 yards to the pin, I will feather a soft 6 iron right up there cozy like. If the distance is 197 yards, I will hit it just marginally harder, yet a teensy bit higher on the upper quadrant of the ball with a descending blow to create that magic backspin.
ENOUGH, ALREADY!!!

Good advice, Kenny. He will be as a lost soul without the banter, drifting with the wind and inundated with doubt.
