With respect to the pronunciation, the Royal Institute Dictionary shows "โขลง ๑ [โขฺลง]", that is " klŏhng" as a single syllable with a rising tone. I see that "thai2english" has the pronunciation you mention. I suspect that this is incorrect; the single syllable pronunciation applies to both meanings, according to the dictionary. The full entry is:

"โขลง ๑ [โขฺลง] น. ฝูง (ใช้เฉพาะช้าง).

โขลง ๒ [โขฺลง] ว. มีกลิ่นเหม็นอย่างเนื้อเน่าที่ค้างหลายวัน, โขง ก็ว่า."

I see on the "sanook/dictionary" website that the term is defined as "n. the whole bunch". (BTW, the sound clip on this website also indicates a single syllable and rising tone.

2) as alot of the other memebers here already speak better Thai than I do and / or live in Thailand, I was wondering just how reliable do you think www.thai2english.com is with respect to the "pronunciation"?
3) can anybody tell me if ทั้งโขลง has another meaning besides "a whole heard of elephants"? Am confused because โขลง apparently also means "stinking, rancid"...

ปัญหา - bpan-hăa - meaning "[ N ] problem; question; trouble". I'm just wondering, if I want to say "I have a question" or "I have a problem" can I say "ผมมีปัญหา"? Or is that just gibberish (เรื่องเหลวไหล)?

ปันหาลับสมอง a riddle.

ปัญหาทางเทคนิค technical question.

"ผมมีปัญหา" translates as "I have a problem". If you wanted to say "I have a question" you could use "ผมมีคำถาม" or "ผมมีตัวปัญหา"

I'm terrible with vocab but can always remember this one because I think of

There are some Thai words that I remember easily because I think they are nifty, the sound of them fits the meaning, (according to me.) One of these words is strange which can also be doubled to make it very strange.

แปลก ( bplàek )
be strange ; be odd ; queer strange

And instead of a bland username like mine, why didn't I think of this one. A good fit for a newbie.

คนแปลกหน้า ( kon bplàek nâa )
stranger ; newcomer

Some 2 syllable words where both begin with the same consonant or vowel sound are also neat. They sound sort of flashy to me.
ฉูดฉาด ( chòot-chàat )
be dazzling ; be flashy ; be bright ; be gaudy

leurd leur -- extravagant, over-the-top, above average

hahd pon -- reason

kwarm jing -- truth

Once upon a time in a 7-11, I tried asking for a cellphone card. I don't remember exactly , but I think I said
(kaw bat sam rap meu teu). I was not understood and had to clear things up by saying 1-2 call.  At some
point a couple of the clerks started laughing. They thought my word meu teu was very funny and would
repeat it and laugh all over again. Until I read the mess up thread, I just chalked it up to bad pronunciation.
Could I have actually said something like I want money for pig worship ? Any ideas?

If anyone seems to question your use of ตัด for grass, you could look at a few more verbs.     ถากหญ้า but there is also ถากดิน so not sure but the description of the end product is described as เตียม adj. Flat level, I assume.    ตาย the other verb, means to use a tool to ถากหญ้า
Although the tools used, digging implement, knife, are rather rustic and are now superceded, it is possible that the verbs have lingered on and are still the accepted terms.  
I would be interested to know especially if you are using a T/E dictionary.

I'm struggling to work out what exactly "อุปกรณ์ตัดหญ้า" is. A tool, appliance, apparatus for cutting grass.

The first thing that comes to mind is a lawnmower "เครื่องตัดหญ้า, ok it's not a lawnmower.

Next is an apparatus for cutting grass, maybe secateurs, shears "กรรไกร"?

Or, maybe a tool, a machete or sickle "พร้า", "เคียว"?

Any other suggestions?
