If The Japanese Economy Is Stagnating, How Can They Afford To Pay The Ladies So Much? ....have you ever seen the reaction when they walk into a bar? You would think that David Beckham had just walked in. I know of one guy sponsoring a lady to the tune of 50,000 baht a month.....should someone tell them thats a bit over the top?

No matter how bad an economy is, there will always be players who are making a very nice salary.  That 50k baht per month could just be pocket money for the punter.

The Japanese economy might be stagnating but it has stagnated at a much higher level than most other economies.  The average Jap is still much better off than the average european.  And have you seen the yen exchange rate recently.  Going abroad much be really cheap for them.

This is the correct answer.  The yen is so bloody strong these days that everything outside of Japan is cheap to the Japanese.

You might want to check out the THB VS JPY for the last three years before you talk too much.

There is absolutely no relationship between a stagnating economy and the men who visit Thailand. Those that have the finances come. Those that don't have the money don't come. There are ALWAYS people who have money and can afford to travel.

I have a friend who is an English teacher. A black man who speaks excellent Thai. He is a good looking young man, well dressed. We walked down Soi Six last year together. I thought I was with a rock star, I mean a real rock star. I was invisible as was every other man walking down the street in his proximity.

An off topic discussion about the human anatomy has been removed, discussion of If the Japanese economy is stagnating would be on topic to this thread.

Well I watched some NHK World tonight (why not?) and to give an idea of salaries: one employer could not find staff to work in his fish factory cutting up fish so he had to increase the daily wage from 80 USD to 130 USD per day. That will give you an idea of the lowest paid daily income in Japan. Basically he had lost alot of staff to the building industry as rebuilding was kicking off after the tsunami.

A problem that will only get worse with time as most of the Japanese population is moving into retirement and the younger generations are not procreating at a rate substantial enough to ensure population stability in Japan over the long haul.

As far as Japanese men flashing the cash in Thailand and spending over the top on just about everything, they are trying to gain face for themselves by being a lame, dupe, over payer. Imagine that!

In Singapore (Geylung Area) the Fishbowl massage places with Japanese writing charge way more. Pretty much any Massage Place that caters to japanese charges more. Why - it just is. Maybe they like paying more.

Not just in Thailand where the Japanese flash the cash !!! I watched in amazement as a japanese and his wife handed over 5 million Rupiah to a watch seller for 2 genuine fake Rolex watches last year on Kuta Square in Bali ,seems they dont like to haggle as its not  deemed proper to do so .

The ones you see in places like the NEP are the ones who cant afford Ratchada prices.
The ones who can afford Ratchada prices are more than happy to pay these prices, which in comparison to Japanese prices are peanuts.
Take a trip to Japan and see what 20,000 yen actually buys you.
Thailand, the poor mans Japan.

I highly recommend taking a coffee in the Big C (formally Carrefore) Ratchada food court; the place is full of beautiful shoppers.

Alternatively Huay Kwang night market where the ladies go to eat after work or do a bit of fashion shopping. I hear the police regularly round of beautiful ladies here from neighboring countries who don't have Thai id.
