I am looking for a Non-im O single entry visa in the region (near Sisaket in Isaan would be perfect) based on being over 50 and with a balance of more than 800k baht in a Thai bank
Would Savvanakhet consulate give me one ? Or is my only possibility a tourist visa and then convert it in Thailand probably in Bangkok immigration ? Thanks #2Posted 2012-01-19 07:47:41
Vientiane will issue single entry, application fee THB 2,000.-, Savannaskhet a multiple entry yearly, application fee THB 5,000.-.

Both Vientiane or Savannakhet will provide single entry (which is what you want for a one year extension of stay using the 800k in two months). If you will not have the 800k available then the multi entry would make sense for more time.

Thanks for the replies, it makes it easier for me being south of Sisaket in Isaan to go to Savannakhetfor a single non-Im O based on 800k baht than to chance going to Bangkok to convert a 30 days stamp or a TV.

Hi Steve not before next winter, I have to settle first in the Japan countryside as I just retired from my job in Tokyo before thinking of spending winters in Thailand
Good luck with your visa search #7Posted 2012-01-21 10:48:04
My wife and I just got back from Savannakhet. We flew up from BKK. Some may need to know that US citizens can get a visa on arrival for Laos but you need a passport photo for the paperwork at the airport. The Lao visa fee is $36 US or 1500 THB. I'm not sure how they made that conversion but that's what they wanted and I only had THB.
The Thai consulate was very easy to get along with and there is a shop just across the road that will do copies, passport photos, and complete the application for a nominal fee. I highly recommend it. We stayed at Savan Vegas. The room was ok but nothing spectacular. The casino reminded me of the one from the movie Vegas Vacation and I kept looking for the table to guess the number the man was thinking. The restaurants in the hotel are good but stay away from the lunch and dinner buffet. The only edible buffet meal was breakfast. Everything else smelled like feet or wet dog. The Dynasty chinese restaurant was excellent and the Silq Room was pretty good. If you do make a reservation at Savan Vegas, make sure you double confirm airport transportation if you need it. There are no taxis. I made our reservation through their website and requested airport pickup but it wasn't there when we got there. Savan Vegas has a cafe in the airport and they called for us. Eventually the hotel came and got us and promptly told me it was my fault because I did not call after I made the reservation through the website. I won't be staying there again.

Javabear, what visa did you get? I'd like to add it to the list of "Latest reports of getting a visa in the region"

Javabear, what visa did you get? I'd like to add it to the list of "Latest reports of getting a visa in the region" I got a 1 year Non-O based on marriage with multi-entry. The fee was 5000 THB. #10Posted 2012-01-22 09:45:05 Quote The Lao visa fee is $36 US or 4500 THB. I'm not sure how they made that conversion but that's what they wanted and I only had THB. I suspect this is a typo and actual amount that you paid for Lao visa was 1,500 baht rather than 4,500 baht? #11Posted 2012-01-22 09:54:50

I did have to show proof of funds in the bank and the bank book was not acceptable. I had gotten a letter from Bangkok Bank signed by the manager and that was what they wanted. They also were not interested in any photos or our housebook. They did want a copy of our marriage certificate. Edited by Javabear, 2012-01-22 15:36:55. #14Posted 2012-01-22 15:40:08
What amount of funds was required and what was shown? Other reports have been that no funds have actually been required but you are saying even a bank passbook would not be accepted?

I showed 400K THB. I got a letter from the Bangkok Bank branch that I deal with here in Rayong as proof. #16Posted 2012-01-23 08:38:31
You are aware you can extend your stay inside Thailand and never have to leave with that proof?
#18Posted 2012-01-23 09:11:26 Most of the reports about Savvanakhet I remember reading are based on marriage to a Thai. The two are not the same animal...marriage and retirement Non O visas. Most Thai consulates in S.E. Asia won't give you a Non O except for marriage to a Thai. So can any of the true experts here actually confirm that Savvanakhet will actually issue a Non O visa based on retirement...not marriage? Have there been any recent reports of anyone being actually issued one in the past? I admit that I don't know, but I would hate to know the OP went to Savvanakhet and found out they wouldn't give him one based on retirement....only marriage. #19Posted 2012-01-23 14:31:15
So do we know how much money is required to be in bank account, for multi non imm 'o' based on marriage?
#20Posted 2012-01-23 15:04:42
Yes I'd like to know if they will give me a Non-Im O based on age (over 50) and balance account over 800k baht
Thanks #21Posted 2012-01-23 15:36:46
This thread is intermingled with both Non-O based on Marriage - Javabear and Non-O for retuirement based on 800k - Krub. Krub is the OP yhat started the thread but it has wonder off in another direction and then back again.. It's very difficult to to see who's on first!
#22Posted 2012-01-23 16:12:09
Krub was told in both posts 2 and 3 that a single entry should not be a problem in Savannakhet and do not believe it would be. But he later amended his post to say he would not do for another year so rather hard to predict the situation then.
#24Posted 2012-01-23 16:24:58
Yes, I know. But now 20 posts later He's back again with the same question. Sorry for the rant, guess my tolerance level is low today. Time to turn off TV and watch the replays of the American Footbal Conferance Championships. Patriots against the Giants in rhe Stupid bowl, whoever would have thunk it? Sorry, off topic, please no football replys.

Must point out members have recently reported obtaining multi entry non immigrant O visas for marriage from Savannakhet with no requirement for proof of funds (even when one was told there was a requirement) - I especially question a letter from bank managers as being official requirement at a Consulate as we have never had any such report from any Consulate that I am aware of. Perhaps that became a factor only because they knew you had it?
