My hair is very thin and I really envy thai women for their beautiful and strong hair. Mine is above shoulder length at the moment, if I'd grow them the way I want, they would look flat. So I was thinking about getting hair extensions. Does anyone have experience with it?

We had a thread on this a while back, I was thinking of getting them. I think the problem lies in what type of extensions you get, someone said, better to get the little rings than the glue. I never did try it, so can't tell you for sure

a friend got  the click kind and said her hair broke.  So it can be risky if your hair is already thin. Glue is DEFINETLY a NO GO like SBK stated.  By the way, all that glitters is not gold, quite a few thai women have extensions.. just go to the places where hair is done e.g. beside the mall bangkapi and you will be surprised.

Extensions if not done by an expert and the hair is fairly straight, are also pretty noticeable. Just look for the line of hair.

If you've never used extensions before I'd use clip in extensions until you are used to them/comfortable with them.

My first set of extensions came from 'foxy locks extensions' online and they were fab!!!

I've actually seen quite a few thai gals getting their hair extensions done, that's why I also thought about it. I have natural curls, so it might not stand out as much.

There are 3 different kinds of hair extensions: Mircorings, Glued in, Clip in...

I used to run a fake hair/extension business in the UK before I moved out here and microrings are by far the best in terms of looking the best and more professional and less noticeable. Especially during the hairline. Clip in extensions work really well if clipped in at the bottom underneath and they add much more volume.

The main problem is finding the right colour (I'm ginger so it was a nightmare!) also it depends on what your natural hair is like. If you have thin hair and it's very dry, it will be noticeable as it'll be different from the sleek extensions. Also if you have curly hair like me, it's near impossible to find extensions which match your natural curls. I used to have to have mine quite wacky and backcomb the extensions because my natural curly hair was quite hard to tame and make look the same as the extensions. :)

Foxylocks extensions is a great clip in hair extension website and I have used them many times if you're thinking of doing it yourself.

Any idea how much the microrings method would cost in Thailand?

For anyone looking for Hair extensions in Bangkok you may want to check out the video below - as far as techniques go yes there are quite a few and it really depends on the hair you have, how thin and processed it is and how many hair extensions you plan on having.

the latest technology is silicone microrings as they cause less damage, and fusion bonding which means a more seamless bond and no metal bits you can feel when you run your fingers through. I think its best to go to the specialist salon first and have a look at the various options.
A good salon will give you a few testers and you can choose from there, i believe there are pros and cons to each technique

Zenred is a relatively new salon in bangkok famous for quality stuff and more for westerners

I already had those glued in extensions and those to clip in. I really prefer the clip in extensions, it needs some practice but it's the best for me. My hair didn't broke, and it was really comfortable that i could put them out at night. I bought them online here in Germany, then i went to a salon to get exactly the same colour and they also cutted my hair in a way that noone ever saw that i had extensions. The glued in extensions damaged my hair a lot, they're also quite expensive here in Germany and they didn't look that good after a few weeks.. :(
