yet when i do a google search now, i can only find 4000B + with thai airways

i am now back down south so wont see a similar billboard ad......

anyone know if any other airlines fly this route?

Amazingly, I believe Thai Airways is the only carrier into Khon Kaen from BKK. Four-five flights daily.

The competition throughout Isaan [in general] has greatly suffered over the years, limiting points of departure and domestic airlines that serve the region.

Try phoning Thai airways directly..

I'm sure when I was working up there last year my Wife flew up to visit me on some good 'over the phone' promotions (i.e. one way was about B1700).

I believe it is onlt Thai Airways, and they have 3 flights per day. Around 2300 baht economy and 4,000 baht business.

Three flights, exactly! (I almost know the schedule by heart Posted Image ).
No other regular flights.
Last promo I saw was 1655 Baht from KKC to BKK.

Just reread your post...
The billboard prices and best prices in general will only be presented at the travel agencies.
Flights booked on the web are always a bit (!) more expensive.

4000 Baht? For a oneway?
A fully flexible business ticket is 4500.
But never seen an economy price that high,

Maybe the flight was heavily booked? (which is often true on a short term basis).
Why search on google, use thaiairways.com directly.

Sometimes it's more convenient to whisk away with a taxi to points throughout the country. Many do, to save the headaches from other forms of transport - the arranging, the waiting, etc.

I've done this a few times from Swampy to Surin - B3,500 - B4,000
Buriram and Korat tend to be less, of course.

Best to arrange the best value one can get at the airport.....
The "public taxi" area from the outside arrivals is a decent place to start - they do have set prices to most anywhere long-haul [still a good value], but you can haggle with the individual taxi driver.

I have lived here in Kalasin for the past 10+years, and fly the Khon Kaen / BKK route often...  Thai Airways is currently running a Promotion of one way tickets at a discount from the usual 2,300 baht...   The promotion runs thru March,,,....  They offer 3 flights a day, Morning (about 7:45?)  Midday (about 12:45?)  and Night 8:??PM)...   If you do not book at least a week in advance, you may find the Midday flight booked solid, or nothing other than First Class available...

I'm thinking of flying BKK to KKC on 6th May. I normally use www.kayak.co.uk as I'm living in the UK at the moment. The price they're giving is 2165B one way which is booked with Thai and is the same on their web site. May well be different if you're booking within the kingdom.

Go to the Thai Airways [domestic] website.....more often than not they will be offering online specials.

I have taken the VIP bus BKK to phon which is just South of KK, 360 Baht, seats larger and much better than the Business class seats on Thai air, journey takes about 5 hours to phon, so maybe will be 6 to KK.

Bit of a sign of the times regarding KK, innit it?

Here we have the bookmarked reference gateway to Isaan - Khon Kaen.
Supposedly, the hub [largest city] of Isaan, yes?
Yet, can only manage to have one domestic airline operating to and fro.

Even places such as Buriram and Udon have a couple of regularly scheduled domestic carriers in service.....

Just an observation.

An observation on what? How Khon Kaen is economically behind other cities in Isaan or is it something else you was thinking?

I think you will find Korat is the supposed gateway to Isaan and the larger City.

Things differ from one person to the next, do they not?
