I have been a patient at DH for over a decade and I really do like the place. Like is not an understatement, I enjoy going there and know I am in competent hands. I would not be at all surprised if my recommedations have led to dozens of new patients for them.

I have had only one serious issue with them where I felt I was being pushed toward a more expensive and uneccary procedure - especially when I needed due to the DH dentists poor filling replacement. She did though a stellar job with the filling (no I DONT need a crown thanks!). We are on good terms.

Past years though I have been unhappy with hurried/rushed cleanings - that has become a bone of contention.

Emailed for appt - price up to B1500 which might not include the checkup (B150).

BIDC is very near my flat and is B1000-1200 so I am going to give them a go. I expect a perfectly great cleaning at that price.

Yes, you can get it cheaper but if you want hygene and competence you have to pay for it. There are great little dentists everywhere but I personally do not trust the hygene to be 100%, 100%  of the time.

My teeth are in great shape but if I were to need something complicated - you can be assured teh work at top clinics will last.

B1500 is just a bridge too far @ THB31/USD1

bangkok prices are over inflated, anything from Root Canal to cleaning I get at 50% less outside the capital  than any Dentist in Bangkok

To autoclave or not to autoclave?  Sometimes it may be worth paying extra.

I share your frustration at their rising prices. thing is, I have yet to get an equally thorough cleaning anywhere else. they really do a great job, at least always have for me, and though I have tried several times to go elsewhere, it is never comparable.

I've sort of compromised on a cleaning there once a year and then at the 6 month mark at a cheaper place.

floss your teeth everyday, keeps all dentists away!
Dr. Ampai at Bangkok Smile Dental Clinic is my favourite periodontist.  She taught me to floss!

Well here it is...

BIDC did a perfectly adequate job. Adequate being the optimum word. If I thought DH was slacking, I would be wrong. What was approx <25 minute procedure at DH (+check) took 15 minutes WITH the checkup at BIDC. Is DH worth an additional B500 and MRT/BTS and walking to get there. That is tough to answer. I would trust BBIDC with a filling but I think I might go back to DH for anything more complicated.

BIDC overstaffed and friendly, but it just did not seem to have the professional feeling I get when I enter DH despite all the blather about awards, etc...

Most assuredly, the place is clean to address your concern Lopburi3. I am crazy serious about that.

BIDC seems to be frequented by tourists. I walk by almost daily and see tourists, not really expats for what that is worth.

In the end, I think Sheryl has it worked out. I will go once a year to BIDC and keep an annual check, all the xray's and any serious stuff (1x a year) at DH.

Yes, KK prices are cheaper outside BKK but that also means smaller clincs and sanitation issues. My gf had a dentist in Nonthaburi was about B600 and she raved about it. I like the big clean institutional places here but aside from that what are we to do? Taxi out there?

Finally, I wasn't in love with the place so if something around the area is found, I will try that as well. But BIDC was clean and acceptable. I do like the fact they have a fee schedule posted on their site.

That's it!

ps: of course you must floss <duh>

What is DH? I've been using Bangkok Hospital for years and think it's great. Best service I've ever gotten anywhere and the dentist spends at least 45 minutes cleaning my teeth.

My kid's dentist is so good he actually likes going to the dentist!

DH = Dental Hospital. on Soi 49 near Sukhumvit. Unbeatable in quality, it's a dedicated dental hospital.  www.dentalhospitalbangkok DOT com

But it is not inexpensive and is getting even less so.

I have a sensitive gag reflex, and biting down on those small cardboard inserts is not easy for me, especially on the molars.  (And, if they don't used mint flavored ones, the taste of the cardboard makes me want to gag, as well.)

One feature I liked about the Dental Hospital check-up is the "panoramic X-ray."  With the panoramic X-ray, you stand motionless in the middle of the room, with nothing in your mouth, and the X-ray machine moves around you and produces a single large xray of your jaw/teeth. Perfect!

I guess you could opt for a panorama instead of bitewing (BIDC also has) but BW Xrays are only B150.

I had to have any emergency extraction at a private dentist here in the UK. Simple extraction - pull and heave. 7500Bt. Think yourself lucky.

Cleaning costs 500b.

I never floss....not once in me 48 years.

For most people, I think the panoramic x-ray is more a marketing device then anything.

Panorama saves money and easy to read. Not something you want done annually. Sure same thing can be accomplished in 5x the time for 3x the money with bitewings.

I floss as much as I can remember to, gums stay in shape and disease free. Most people that whine about sensitive mouth do not floss - its their gums that hurt when the Dr goes at it.

...I bet your mouth smells loverly.

St Louis seems a bargain but Sheryl knows the place well enough and if she's using DH, I won't even bother.
