Since I have no plans to return for the next year my wife is 4 months pregnant. We will return in 14 months when the baby is 6 months, I just paid 20,000 baht as my policy was due Jan 16, 2012, and I registered the car and do have car and home insurance has anyone been able to successfully get a partial refund or a pro-rated refund from there insurance carrier due to long term non use?

Wouldn't you still need the insurance in case the car got stolen while you were away?

Keeping that insurance is something to consider. If it is financed on a loan I think you have to keep insurance. If it was mine without a laon and I had a good safe place to park it I would drop the insurance.

Why not sell it and buy another in 1 years time? would save a little on road tax too, other issues that arrise from the vehicle not being run, like all the orings in the AC system drying from no oil flow around the system and then the gas leaking out, If it has gasahol in it that should be drained as well and you should be able to just put some regular 91 in.
But If it was me, I would sell it or consider providing it to a reputable vehicle hire company so it hs some maintenance performed and gets use, you would even make some money this way. #5

Refund only when transfer ownership is my experience, and its 50-70% of remaining "balance"
