The only thing I would complain about is the amount of rubbish that is left everywhere but again not worth getting to upset about.

Mr Napalm I live 100 yds from Wat Chalong it is not a problem to me, my gf or her 10 year old daughter, I accept everything that goes on here because it 100% better from where I came from, love the party's and hope there are many more!!

Yeah got to be honest it is dam noisy but as my wife says dis not your cuntree have to pay ball ( play ball) bless so as much as it pisses me off she's right so next time taking a break somewhere and although I understand it's an important event to Thai in general they real don't give a shit about anyone ,u can bash this thread but I have been here 15 years and stand by wot I say. Enough said. Years ago, somebody who has lived here far longer than me, told me that Thais are incredibly tolerant but extremely inconsiderate. I have found this to be true. Its just something we have to get used to and accept as we are guests in their country. Mind you, I too have found the bloody fireworks are getting louder! I never had much of a problem with fireworks (living in a fairly remote place), but the other night a 'banger' went off that even made me jump! One of my dogs went missing for a couple of hours, she was clearly so terrified she just ran..... My tolerance evaporates when it comes to 'bangers'. #28Posted 2012-02-11 16:41:51

This is Thailand So you don't care that dogs may be so terrified they run far enough to lose their homes (this happened to someone I know)? Not to mention the terror caused to the local wildlife? Sorry - as I said before, I've absolutely zero tolerance for incredibly loud 'bangs'. I'm used to the normal firecrackers (as are most of my dogs), but they presumably are producing ever louder fireworks. Why?? Who other than a few morons think 'the louder the better'? #30Posted 2012-02-11 17:50:41
So you don't care that dogs may be so terrified they run far enough to lose their homes (this happened to someone I know)? You chose to have a dog in Thailand.
Not to mention the terror caused to the local wildlife? I sympathise, but, no noisier than a crack of thunder.

So basically, animals are unimportant in themselves and pets are not worth thinking about. I agree about the 'crack of thunder' comment but, they tend to be spaced - giving the pet a chance to run home. Additionally, whilst I've (incredibly rarely) 'jumped' at thunder when it was directly over my house, I'm horrified that 'bangers' are now as loud as they were one after another - not just every few minutes. I LOVE fireworks but, only the 'beautiful' bit - I've never understood how the 'bang' has become more important than the beauty. #32Posted 2012-02-11 19:14:17

But if the bang was loud enough previously, why does it now have to be louder? #34Posted 2012-02-11 20:17:17

I v never seen a Thai countryside dog afraid of fireworks, how would they survive? My dogs in Kata dont even lift their ears when its fireworks or gunshots The firecrackers or gunshots are to haunt away bad spirits, if you are troubled 100 of them are needed. Its originally a Chinese thing, but as TH is very much Chinese inspired, well you know In an ordinary party 3 x 15 bullets seems to be the norm, synchronised to have the intended effect terror to local wildlife, who wants tigers or snakes in the village? back home we dont want wolves in our gardens, or do you? Welcome to Thailand. With absolutely zero tolerance to Thai culture you might be better off remaining in farang-Rawai #35Posted 2012-02-11 21:04:31
You obviously don't have a clue and don't actually care...
It is my adopted soi dogs that are terrified - the dog I brought from England just lifts up his head to 'check' with me whether everything is OK. It was a soi dog I adopted a few months ago that ran, and came back a couple of hours later... Similarly, it was an adopted soi dog that belonged to a friend of mine that ran off - never to be seen again. I post time and time again that it is up to us to fit in with Thai culture. My problem is the way fireworks are concentrating on making the noise louder, rather than the visual effect. You believe that the local wildlife (including the soi dogs) have no problems with the noise. Fair enough - I believe that the noise is terrifying them, and it is getting worse. #36Posted 2012-02-11 21:22:07
So what is the answer? nothing will change it is how it is!! accept it or well you know the answer to that, yes they are getting louder but again it is how it is!! if I had a dog maybe I would feel differently as I love dogs as far as I have seen the majority of animals accept the noise!!

I would have said education, but an earlier (Western) poster has made it clear that he also, enjoys making one hell of a lot of noise for the sake of it.... Up until recently I only had one dog (ex soi) that was terrified by loud noises. The other 2 weren't too bothered - until the other night. #38Posted 2012-02-11 22:20:28

And I agree with you, it does not have to be louder than it was. But socienty does not work that way, everything has to be better, faster, stronger, more, even louder. #39Posted 2012-02-12 05:44:02
Fairs at temples, like the one at Wat Chalong, this one, the one at Nai Harn temple, Rawai temple, etc., are part of the Thai tradition and very, very important to the locals. Accept them or move away from a temple area. Sigh....(the "move away" reply).....This fair, I'm pretty sure, has nothing to do with any temple. The owner has (with big signs) tried to sell this piece of land for well over a year now. This is how he is making his money right now.... I do hope that he finds a buyer very soon, or there will be a new "fair" within a few weeks. #40Posted 2012-02-12 07:17:22

The fair being held at the moment, the one you're complaining about, is being held every year at this time of year. It may have gotten louder, but the fair is there, has been there for a long time and I would expect will be there again in the future. Why do you refuse to believe what napalm says. Up until a couple of years ago there were no fairs on that site as there were local businesses operating there. I know as I used to buy sandstone from one of them. You may be mistaking the one on the vacant site for the fair which is held on the opposite side of the road in the temple grounds. #42Posted 2012-02-12 07:49:06

Ok, thanks for the corrections. So is this one extra or does it replace the other one?

These traditions have been incorporated in TH Buddhisme, do you want to change it? I love living here, but I also accept the need to adapt to the country, culture and religion, and prefere to do so by taking part in it. #47#48Posted 2012-02-12 10:43:37
