Well had my first night out in Patong for quite a while last Friday and the 2am closing time was disappointing.
By the time I have finished work, had a shave and shower eaten some food and then got a Tuk Tuk to Patong it is about 10-11pm. I had 3 hours drinking and then the place was closing up. Barely worth the hassle.
Ended up in a "lock in" in Kamala, was like being in the UK when they had the 11pm pub closing times...
I can only fully agry with you. I not go out long dayly, but when I go, also with Long time GF who likes to dance the night away,
I want to go as long as I want.
I would like the Bars closing, because of not enough business, not because of a law,
enforced because a single incident happened in Phuket town in a mostly from Thais frequented Bar!
While I agree that selective enforcement of the law is the normal practice around here, the law still remains the same. All entertainment venues must close by 2 AM. Nothing you can do to change that law either, so best to get over it...

But no one needs to get over it because none on the bars are now closing at the lawful time of 2am

In that case, why would you say "get over it" about a law that is not enforced?
Doesn't make sense.

My.... I have to explain that? I thought I did. The law is the law, you're not going to change it are you? The enforcement is also beyond your control, isn't it. So, if they decide to enforce the law that is on the books, you'll have to get over it...

However, law, get over it ect.
Important is the outcome and when the Status Quo is now, longer opening times, so its better for most of the Party folk.
By the way, f..k Ting Tong laws.

Unfortunately, the entertainment closing hours law was adopted in 2004. See thread: http://www.thaivisa....ainment-venue/. The next year they started not selling alcohol between 2 PM and 5 PM. It was written they said to prevent school children from buying alcohol after school. I guess they never heard of checking an ID card. Both of these brilliant laws were implemented under then PM Thaksin Shinawatra... But as I said earlier and you have reaffirmed, these laws (and many other) are selectively enforced. Enjoy it until the next "crackdown" starts up.

Thank you, but myself, I am not such a Disco Tiger with 50 y. but, my opinion is, a closing time of 2 AM in a Party city same Patong is to early.
And, if there are laws who say different, so the law is deffinitely wrong for that Party places in TH.
I am now in Udon Thani in the countryside and I am not informed what is going on in Patong.

Yeah i think for places that are specifically centered around people going to party it would be pretty disastrous for them to continuously enforce the 2am closing times. I expect that medium to long term it would be more damaging to tourism and businesses than all the other problems Thailand has seen in the last few years.
