girlfriend has recently been gifted a Blackberry 9500 Storm from her sister who lives in the UK
girlfriend has a DTAC contract SIM card that she uses for calls on her Nokia that also gives her a free 20 hours of internet access which she uses to connect her notebook to the internet
when she is back in the village.........the nokia also allows her to send and recieve emails on the phone using this SIM
shes now using the Blackberry ( its a face thing) with the DTAC sim card which has been fine for making and receiving calls but she cannot set up emails on it
tried to set up and get this
Email Setup >
'I want to use a work email account with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server' .> Next
Has your Blackberry Enterprise server admin provided you with an Enterprise Activation Password...no...> next
Email
password
PIN 20E863A6
Status...Not Activated
or another option leads to
ICQ number/Password
she went to the DTAC office and they said she has to pay Blackberry to get email on the Blackberry phone which i find hard to believe as the Nokia phone performs this function free no problem
me personally i use a 600 baht phone and just about understand how to text with it LOL........so can anyone explain to me whats going on here and help me sort the problem out...thanks

She needs to get a BlackBerry data plan. You cannot use hour based packages. The time will be gone in less than a day as the BlackBerry is connected to the data servers 24/7. Also without a BlackBerry plan she cannot use any RIM services (i.e., the BlackBerry is not being used as a BlackBerry). They have low cost plans for people that just want email and chat, or email and facebook. If he wants to surf the internet also she needs to get a regular BB plan. Then her service books will automatically download to her phone opening up the wonderful world of the BlackBerry experience. Without a BB plan a BB is a waste of money. There are ways around the email issue but it is not easy to do and not for the novice user, and she would still need a volume based data plan not an hourly plan. If she wants email DTAC is correct for the most part, she must get a BlackBerry data plan. RIM is paid a monthly fee for each BB on a BB data plan.

Don't bother with the expensive ones (790 baht for the "unlimited" package) it's a waste of time unless you're a real geek.
Best one would be the BB "Me" package at 299 (+vat) Simple codes to set up - look here http://www.gsmnetsim...y-INTERNET.html Just put at least 320 baht and you're off. Wait for the sms that it's "activated", do a battery pull to be on the safe side, after it reboots internet, bbm, etc should all work (twitter, facebook etc also, if she has them installed). Go to the e-mail setup menu and there should now be a 2nd option other than "enterprise", where you can set up the email account. #6Posted 2012-02-06 21:17:08
