Here's a secret worth a lot more - unless you're young and handsome, you're most likely deluding yourself, collaborating in being scammed - if they're not explicitly in the game as blatant professionals, they're just playing the field working the long con. Particularly in Asia, but IMO everywhere you 99% of the time end up paying one way or the other.
For us normal (fat old balding not wealthy) farangs, the secret is to pay on a monthly basis (cash + room and board), not short time. Of course then you have to be willing to put up with all the BS that goes along with having the help live in.
The ideal (for both of you) is parking them in separate accommodation and agreeing to a mutually convenient schedule, but then of course that adds to the expense.
In any case B1,000 ST is very expensive. Get to know the language and the local scene and you should be able to get that to an average of below 600, especially if you're a regular.
