To be fair, they don't show the Challenge Cup Final, either and yet that is a truely international competition.
Could you not get commentary on the wireless? SC #3Posted 2012-02-06 09:39:44
We've got it on cable tv in pattaya, courtesy astro Malasia. You're in the wrong city.

Its not an easy game to text-commentate on, is it? Especially not on a tiny touch screen... Astro do a good job with their sports... In Dubai I took Orbit Satellite specifically to cut down on my drinking - to watch the Six Nations at home instead of the pub, but they lost the rights to that competition, so I watched every game in the pub anyway... I missed my flight back to Thailand this morning and had to reschedule for Tuesday. But at least I was able to watch the game at a friend's house.
The problem with True is that they dropped ASN, the network with the NFL rights here. True charges twice as much as other SE Asian television providers and provides half as many channels. The game was a little boring until the end, but some of the commercials were really quite entertaining. #8Posted 2012-02-06 12:37:28
that really is a increasingly valid appraisal of recent superbowls and of american football vs say, "soccer". The superbowl is more about the commercials than the sport.

True dropped ASN which broadcast NFL football last October. It is now televised by Gmm sport in Thailand. Up until 27 January Gmm sport was televising it free on c band telecom 5 (03480H30000), but encrypted it on 27 January. I watched via NFL Game Pass which cost $19.99. It was actually a good game, too bad NE lost!Unfortunately, American televised sports in general have become a commercial circus.

(speculation - I've not checked the TV times...)(My programme planner doesn't have next weekend's star sports schedule yet) SC Edit: typo corrected Edited by StreetCowboy, 2012-02-06 14:38:53. #11Posted 2012-02-06 14:51:38
Monday the 17th, 0240. There's a lot of rugby on the Star Sports Extra 1 that True added. Six Nations with a lot of other from OZ (Sententa). Just watched re[lay of Wales vs Ireland, Wales won.

True enough, but sadly, not the Challenge Cup nor Superleague; though I suppose we should be grateful for what we get. I was listening to the first round of the Superleague in preference to watching the Ireland Wales game last night, out of churlish disgruntlement and ill nature, after the preceding night's infuriating and distressingly depressing Calcutta Cup. When we cannot win even despite being apparently the better team, what hope have we? SC Aye, hope springs eternal, like dandelions in the lawn. Each little glimmer scuttles out like a cockroach to be crushed by the boot of harsh reality,... #13Posted 2012-02-06 15:27:03
Seeing that True wasn't going to have it, I also watched this morning via NFL Gamepass. I was shocked and dismayed to see that the stream quality was excellent throughout the game. Had a slight glitch once in the second quarter for about 3-5secs, otherwise maintained a surprisingly high-quality stream. I thought it was going to be just barely watch-able here in Thailand, but it looked just as good as anything I get on True. I am so buying this next season. And it was actually a pretty good game too, good luck all around.

I paid for the world cup sevens over the internet in 2009, but the quality for the finals was dreadful; turned out the finals were on Star Sports or Australia Network, though, so all was well... Watched the BBC stream --- great quality, great game.

Sreetcowboy'
I'm american and other than 6 nations, rugby is "GREEK" to me. Why does OZ use different scoring, 4 points try, 2 points conversion or penality? Just to be different? bobo42' The streaming on NFL Game Pass was far better than I expected due to my remote area and shitty internet connection. If something doesn't change before next season I'll sign up for the full package also. Edited by wayned, 2012-02-06 16:19:36. #17Posted 2012-02-06 19:13:51

Troll post removed? i only asked if it was rounders or rugby in armour that he wanted to watch.
#19Posted 2012-02-07 05:29:55
I prefer rugby in "full body armour" played with a ball with points at both ends! Thanks!

In 20+ years in Bangkok, this is the first I can remember where the superbowl wasn't televised by either Thai TV or True corporation/predecessors. True Corporation didn't drop ASN, they were out bid. They now have competition and when a previous monopoly all of a sudden has competition, they don't know what to do. I understand that True Corporation has also lost German football (soccer). Their competitors are Grammy and RS, both of which can compete against True Corporation in terms of financial assets.

they also dont have UFC which is frustration. any recomendations on satellite in bkk?

It will be interesting to see if True can retain the jewel in their crown - the EPL. #24Posted 2012-02-07 18:54:05
I'm really not bothered about watching live sport these days - I can take it or leave it. Indeed when I had a True Gold package a couple of years back, I hardly ever bothered to watch the EPL.
But if I was still into live sport I would go for the Astro package from Malaysia which is available in Thailand and has all the sports that the old S African Supersport network used to show, plus much more. All the cricket, a lot of EPL and much American sport, including American Football. There 's a bit of an initial outlay for dish and box, but after that the subscription is not too unreasonable. I may be wrong, but as far as I am aware it is all legit. Down here, on the edge of sin city, we get two Astro channels on our cable network which cover such events as the 6 nations, rugby world cup, some cricket test matches and the recent Super Bowl. Not bad for 450 Baht a month and which also includes about another 80 odd channels. Edited by Mobi, 2012-02-07 18:54:33. #25Posted 2012-02-12 13:23:08

This is because the 6 Nations is rugby UNION and the Australian coverage you refer to is rugby LEAGUE which is a variant of UNION. It's great that they are showing rugby on Setanta and I couldn't care less about whether they show American (so called) sport as that serves no real interest to me and many non-Americans that have been brought up on REAL sport, I would imagine!!!! |
