Hi. I just spoke to our embassy (Canada) regarding getting a Criminal Background Check for reasons of work.

I was told that we have to go to a Thai police station and have my fingerprints taken then mail the originals to the RCMP via mail (not email scan) and wait for them to send it back.

This seems like a very long process to get it in order to send it to an Employer in order to get a contract.

Does anyone else know of an easier faster way of getting it done? Prices, contact info etc. would also be helpful.

I know that getting the criminal record check (not for working with children) takes about ten minutes in an RCMP office.  But I've no idea what you do from here.

But the ones I've had done in Canada haven't needed any fingerprints.  Perhaps you need the more extensive check for working with children or people in vulnerable circumstances.

Try to get the required forms before just sending off the fingerprints, if that's necessary.  Embassy might or might not have them, but RCMP does have an extensive website (sorry, no url) and you might find info there.

Obtain a Criminal Reference Check
Contact your local OPP detachment to obtain a Criminal Reference Check.
Please refer to the OPP Detachment Finder tool located on the main page of this site to find an OPP detachment in your area.

In the UK you get a form from the nearest police station and send it to the county headquarters. It takes a while as well. You also need things like this for Brazilian visas.

What kind of job do you have? Would seem a good idea to let others know so that they can do it BEFORE they leave.

The Embassy is correct. I know someone who used his parents address and they sent it by Priority Courier to Thailand-from start to finish about 6 weeks. Maybe inform your employer the processing times and they will be understanding.

If I recall correctly before I applied for a visa to live in Thailand, I had to get a criminal check report in Canada and submit it with a medical certificate along with proof of income before the Thai Embassy in Ottawa would issue the visa for me to live here.

If you already did a criminal background check in Canada isn't it redundant to do another one for your prospective employer?

I am an Engineer in the Oil/Gas & Petrol-Chemical industry.

I do not have a job as of yet but my last job in Kuwait wanted that as well as most Employers do these days in the Middle East. The company I was working for there was doing it for me but the job only lasted 6 weeks and before I was finished it still had not come through so they probably canceled it.

I want to do this to avoid having to wait in order to get residency in a country where I plan on working. Also it is just a good thing to have I figure.

Yes the RCMP does have their website and I will get the forms and start the process. I was hoping there might be an agency here in Thailand that could do it and has the experience and connections. I have been here for 11 years and not in Canada.

I had to do this once for a job in  Saudi.
Mailed the fingerprints (taken by Thai police)to RCMP HQ, teir report sent back by post.
It took about 3 months, the Thai police report took only 1 week.

What Thai police report? You had to get a criminal background check from Thailand as well?
