Wife has got some goldfish to replace those that escaped during the flood. These are the fat fan-tailed variety and they live in a large shaded tub on the patio.
Now in England the advice is to feed not more than twice a day in summer, less in the rest of the year, but fish are cold blooded and temperatures here are rather more than in the UK so the presumably will have a faster metabolic rate and can eat more.
So just how often can/should we feed them? they seem to be looking for food about an hour or two after the previous feed.

I feed mine...(when I remember ) in the late morning only.....that way there is no uneated food.
They generaly eat it all up within 10 mins..They have been in my pond for a year now and all have grown\ I could answer your question by saying " the same as in Chiang Mai Edited by gennisis, 2012-02-08 17:45:03. #3Posted 2012-02-09 15:39:05
I stopped feeding the ones in my pond about 6 months ago altogether. They have now through necessity (death being the other choice I guess) acquired a taste for mosquito larvae which suits me fine. Funnily enough, my Labrador has a taste for the grown mosquitos as well, and sits there of an evening merrily snapping away trying to get them. I only realised what she was doing when I noticed she had specs of blood in her mouth
Now I'm concerned she has acquired a taste for my blood.... #4Posted 2012-02-11 10:06:06
Hmm, I cut myself quite badly last year, My dog came to look, thought he was worried about me, then realized he was licking up the blood where it fell on the tiled floor!
But getting back to the gold fish, mine quite happily devour all the mosquito larvae even though they are being fed - plus the snails and the duckweed - yours must be getting old and lazy. #5Posted 2012-02-14 03:35:14
Feed them 2X daily. Feeding should last 5 minutes +/- a bit.
Enjoy. |
