To optimize your battery life you need to tweak the settings and turn off anything that will "sync" etc automatic. And you need to re-visit the settings time to time as sometimes they reset back to default when you do or install something. It's also bit confusing to navigate all the various settings. Pet hate of mine in Android is the settings and navigating them.
For data use you can find couple of widgets i.e. buttons on your home screen where you can toggle WiFi, Data, GPS and Airline mode with one press of a button. That was the most used feature for me in Android. To turn the wifi and mobile data off to save battery. Only on when actually wanted to use data. And screen brightness, to get anything out of the battery set it fairly dark and turn off auto adjustment. Then again, i ended up charging every night. I could have gone one and half days but i hate charging middle of the day as i need my phone in my pocket when in office. This meant i could use the data on all the time and do quite a bit of web browsing and email on top of calls without the need to charge during the day. #27Posted 2012-02-15 09:37:50
There is NO WAY you are going to get a Defy+ to last a week between charges... 3 days max...
And thats if you do not use wifi or interenet AT all. ThaT UNFOURTANTLY is the nature of the beast.. If you want long battery life then Nokia are king.. But then you know that already. #28Posted 2012-02-15 11:15:59
I think I have found the right application to keep the phone going on the Internet by itself. It's called apndroid. I have it on my home screen and it is a simple thing to toggle it on and off. Anyone using this application?

There is an app in the Market called Quick Settings which allows you to toggle mobile data on/off, and control many, many other functions from a single interface.
https://market.andro...ksettings&hl=en Some ROMs, stock or otherwise, allow you to add functions to the Action Bar aka Quick Settings Panel, the top-most pull-down menu, including mobile data. A volume-based data plan is recommended rather than a time-based one. Some devices turn of mobile data when WiFi is enabled. Attached Files#31Posted 2012-02-16 11:50:40

On my phone I just long press the power switch and it gives the toggle on/offs for silent/internet data/flight mode or power off. No need for any apps. SG2

SG2 Same for phones like the Galaxy Cooper Also on the cooper is a pull down shade on the main screen that has the same GUI as post #30 shows except Data is WiFi ( data is accessed in settings or as you say long press power button) #34Posted 2012-02-16 12:49:40
I got the new phone today and so far android and the touch screen are pieces of shit.
I'm rather impressed with the phone itself Just imagine with your change in opinion over 24 hours, what endless possibilities unfold for you in the coming months. #35Posted 2012-02-16 13:23:03

SG2 Yes, on many ROMs, stock or otherwise, you are able to modify the Power menu (long press) to bring up various options. I personally find this the least intuitive/desirable way to toggle active components, but that's just my personal preference. See picture.

BTW, for those who have TrueVisions check out this Android App. http://www.appbrain.com/app/tru-evisions-online-schedule/com.js.truevisions
It is amazing, you can set search criteria. It looks better on a tablet. Attached Files#37Posted 2012-02-16 13:45:15

That is interesting I will have to look at it & see.... Edit: Oh I see your 2nd pic now which i did not see when you 1st posted.... Will have to see how you modify the action bar as I agree it is more intuitive than the power button menu

^ AT&T! That's a strong signal.
You may or may not be able to modify your Power menu and/or Action Bar. #40Posted 2012-02-16 14:31:16

I'm still an android rookie. Since I am interested in Internet charges and battery life, I am using Apndroid and Battery DR, The apndroid turns the Internet on and off. The Battery Dr Turns off the GPS as well as Wif, bluetooth and other applications. I'll report further after I see what my battery life looks like. I want to control my phone and want no automatic syncs

Just using the phone as a phone I am now sure the battery will last a full week. That said, there is so much to play with that with heavy use, I can drain the battery in just one day.

I found on my wellcom it has an auto start function in the settings. so I can set it to turn on and off. cool. #44Posted 2012-02-24 12:40:52
My phone - Samsung - automatically shuts down the APN connection when it detects and connects to a WiFi network. I'd imagine that yours is the same. If you have WiFi at home, connect to it and you will be able to use the internet without any extra charges. The APN connection will activate itself whenever you leave the house / out of WiFi range which is useful- no user action needed to remember.

The phone is never shut off at night although Android has a built in battery saver feature that will do that. I like the features of a smart phone but I don't want my phone doing anything that I am not in control of. Any feature that I want to use is easily toggled on and off. I use the AIS monthly package that gives me 20 hours for 100 baht per month. Last November I bought a router that works/worked with my USB EVDO modem. I bought it from an online Thai company and was impressed with the email promptness and the fast shipping. About a week ago it quit working and my email to the vendor who I bought it from has gone unanswered. TIT! The router was handy to keep my laptop and net-book up to date and it was also great for the phone. #46Posted 2012-02-24 14:36:39

If fact I downloaded and tried Norton. I have an aversion to some of the applications that try to be everything to everyone. You are correct that most of those applications count MB's and not hours. I have uninstalled Norton and use the quick built in Android dialer, One touch dials *139# and AIS immediately gives me the balance in hours and minutes. |
