Hello
Long time since I have visited the forum. Hello to all.
I am coming to LOS during Songkran. I am taking my son who is 23 and has never been to LOS before. I can't wait and really excited for him as its going to be totally different from anything he has experienced in the UK or Europe.
We're going to stay one night in BKK before heading off to meet my GF and family in Kampaeng. I want to take him to see the Grand Palace on Sunday 15th April but I wasn't sure if its normal opening times or if it may be closed or reduced opening hours.
Can anyone confirm for me please?
Many thanks

Of course, the Grand Palace will be closed for a Thai-only special ceremony and you should get into one of the lurking tuk-tuks and take their "Grand Tour". You'll see all the exciting sites like jewelry stores, tailors and souvenir shops....
Just kidding. Sadly, I have no clue, except to suggest you believe absolutely nothing you're told by the butt munches standing outside looking for tourist meat and money. #3Posted 2012-02-10 10:51:36
My bet is that it will be closed on the public holidays from 13th to 17th

All you need to know, and even see what a 'wily stranger' looks like

As an experiment, I walked around the Grand Palace perimeter, asking Thais "where is the Grand Palace"?
49 out of 50 lied. Said it was closed. Only one person gave me an honest answer and pointed me toward the entrance. Even the police I spoke to were in on it. #6Posted 2012-02-11 09:58:21
Last year, on April 15 (2011) it looks like the Temple was open but the Palace and Chapel closed. YMMV. I couldn't find a similar listing for 2012.

I just called to TAT and was told that the Grand Palace will be open during all days of Songkran as per their normal opening hours (08:30 to 15:30).
You might want to verify again a few days in advance, as changes may always happen: Phone 1672 press 9 press 0. |
