If you are in Thailand and don't want to use a credit card to buy apps from the iTune store you can always buy vouchers (Same as anywhere in the World) however here in Thailand if you want to buy $25.00 USD worth of credit they charge you (sell you) that for around 3000 baht which is equivalent to $75.00 USD.
Is this not wrong? Does Apple like this? I know I won't do it.
Then they wonder why people jailbreak their iPhones and get free apps from cydia etc.

Get someone in ( insert home country here ) to buy them and SMS the code,extremely simple,pay said friend with PayPal send said money as gift and pay minimum fees.

You misunderstand OP.
The expensive ones you are buying are US iTunes store gift cards thats why they are marked up. So you can use them in the US store. They are not THAI ITUNES STORE gift cards. Do some research before making the statements. Anyway there are hundreds of ways to get a US iTunes gift card for $2.00 markup. The reason you buy US iTunes gift vouchers is for tv shows and movie rentals and music not really for apps. try epointsdelivered.com for a start. iTunes US store is the only way to go to be honest to maximise your iTunes store and devices. Sorry my exchange rates were wrong but all I know is that in the Apple store in tukcom they wanted $75.00 USD for a $25.00 voucher.
I live in Thailand NOT America so if I want to buy $25.00 USD worth of iTunes vouchers why should I have to pay 3 times that no matter wtf you are? negreanu: I didn't want movie rentals I wanted to buy apps. Why would someone in the USA want to buy "TomTom Thailand" ? I'm not to concerned as I am jailbroken and get everything free but if someone was legit what would make them stay legit? Certainly not by tripling the costs of iTunes credit. What do you mean by "do your research"? I did, I went to apple store and asked how much to buy $25.00 USD worth of credit. #8

Don't see the problem using a Thai credit card or visa debit card if you are only interested in the thai iTunes store. Or as I stated above epointsdelivered US$28 for $25 voucher. You can use your Thai bank ATM (debit) card to buy anything in the Thai iTunes store, so why would you buy a US iTunes store gift card? I really doubt Apple is marking up the gift cards, the shop is. There aren't any real Apple Stores in Thailand, other than the online one, by the way. There are authorized resellers, which is not the same thing as an Apple Store, which are owned by Apple. Most likely because of Thai laws dictating that Thais must own 51% of the business. I have two iTunes accounts, one US and one Thai. But now that you have jail broken your phone and you can't use the latest iOS when they update it, up to you...

Who are "they"? It's not Apple, neither in one of their stores, nor via iTunes; "they" are independent resellers charging what "they" believe people are happy to pay to get around Apple's iTunes store T&C - if people weren't happy, they wouldn't be buying buying, and "they" (the independent resellers) would drop their prices.
You should really change the thread title to 'Independent resellers of US iTunes store vouchers in Thailand are ripping me off'. Don't blame Apple or iTunes for something you choose to do. #13

Tukcom in Pattaya has an apple outlet store and they sell ONLY apple products etc. So you don't think they are governed by apple? A $25.00 USD voucher should cost around 750 baht #14

I agree, they should. All I am saying is that it isn't Apple's fault that an independent reseller chooses to overcharge a customer who chooses to purchase something that Apple themselves aren't offering in that customer's country.

GONE, we don't "think" anything, we KNOW it's not an official apple store and NO apple has nothing to do with them outside of selling these stores their wares. You are complaining about apple when it is just some Thai guy bumping up the price, Apple has NO official stores in the entire country.

If you want to pay Somchai more, up to you. If not get an iTunes account and use your Thai debit card for the Thai iTunes store, or if you have a US address and bank card, then get an US account or whatever country you have an address and bankcard of some type, credit or debit... Copyright laws are what they are. Apple has to comply with them. That's why many things that are available from the US iTunes store are not available from the Thai iTunes store. |
