It will be tough for any new players to get called up? I took a glance at the squads uploaded so far and chuckled a bit because most if not all of them omit a true centre forward as far as I can see- I mean the opposition will love that!! So be it Carroll (most likely), or Crouch, Zamora, or Holt, a big centre forward type will be there IMHO. Part of Barcelona's problem is that they have one way only, you have to be adaptable, and England score mainly from set pieces. Personally I like Carroll because he works hard and his all round game is good even when not scoring, but failing him then Crouch scores a lot for England- something that can not be said for many England players. #204Posted 2012-05-06 12:43:10
England should go for youth, no Gerrard Lampard Terry Ferdinand ect, we have a cat in hells chance of winning it, so blood the young players and let them settle get big game experience and plan for the next world cup. There's quit a few posts on a similar theme. To my mind, although it always seems tempting, a well balanced side really needs experience especially at the back, so any culling needs to be selective. I do agree though, the 'golden generation' failed miserably and there are some big egos that we could do without. #205Posted 2012-05-06 12:49:48
Grant Holt has to go to the euros the man is a beast.

Grant Holt has to go to the euros the man is a beast. Posted with Thaivisa App http://apps.thaivisa.com Your right, we call him affectionately "The Horse" around Norwich #207Posted 2012-05-07 19:00:31
Sorry to keep going on about it, but I truly believe he could make a big impact.
"Wayne Rooney is the only Englishman to score more Premier League goals than Grant Holt’s 14 this season and the Norwich striker showed again against Arsenal why he needs to be taken seriously. It is an unfair misconception that he is just a target man - he offers much more - and if I were Roy Hodgson, I would take a look at him in the two friendlies ahead of Euro 2012. He has really good imagination in his finishing. At Everton, he backheeled his way out of a tight situation and Lionel Messi would have been proud of his chipped finish against Wolves. He produces pieces of individual skill that would receive heaps of praise if he was someone more high profile. He shows excellent composure time and time again and has scored against Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea and Newcastle.

To be fair i think most of us would like to see Holt given a chance.

Holt defo goes down as my 'most improved player of the season' 4 me at the beginning of the season Holt looked out of his depth, and along with dobie was promptly dropped, Fair play to the guy got his head down and came bac a few pounds lighter and what can u say he's had a fab season, but England, Hmmmm!!!! Don't think so, for starter's on the international stage with it's 'varied refing', shall we be kind and say holt's 'all in style' would attract yellow cards like bee's 2 honey and he would probably end up a liability, Let's hope i'm wrong, he goes and scores plenty, but somehow I doubt it. Any way, not long to wait now, Hodgson names his squad on the 16th http://www.bbc.co.uk...otball/18006881

To be fair i think most of us would like to see Holt given a chance. If there was an opportunity for him to play in a couple of friendlies before the squad is announced, i'd go along with that. As there isn't, I would rather see Crouch in the squad. At least it's proven he can score goals at international level (albeit against generally lower class opposition, but at least he scores). If I was a betting man i'd put money on Hodgson (wrongly in my eyes) taking Zamora. #211Posted 2012-05-10 14:44:11
The squad for the friendlies is announced on Wednesday.

If I was a betting man i'd put money on Hodgson (wrongly in my eyes) taking Zamora. i'm quite sure that hodsgon will throw a couple of curveballs in there. zamora could be one. he could take joey barton. or leave john terry at home. it's going to be interesting and fun any which way. #213Posted 2012-05-10 15:12:30
The squad for the friendlies is announced on Wednesday. Which is the same Wednesday Hodgson will announce the squad for the Euros. He has until the 29th to make alterations, but I can't see him naming a player and then changing his mind and calling someone else up. http://www.bbc.co.uk...otball/18006881 #216#217Posted 2012-05-15 18:41:17
John Ruddy of Norwich 1/20 to get picked, Corals must know something

Well thats an adventurous choice from the new manager.
#220Posted 2012-05-16 11:18:07
Even I'm left speechless by that selection.
#221Posted 2012-05-16 13:37:14
From over here it does not look like Ferdinand will be going, and that is no surprise. Hes not had a good season, Terry is a better defender.

From over here it does not look like Ferdinand will be going, and that is no surprise. Hes not had a good season, Terry is a better defender. Yes the unofficial gossip from the rumour mill is that Ferdinand is not included, and that all the old faces will be there, plus a few newbies such as Carroll, Jones and Wellbeck. Most notable absences may be Walker, Richards, Crouch and Ferdinand. Foster has reaffirmed his retirement from international football. Gossip from the rags as I say. #224Posted 2012-05-16 20:27:43
THE SQUAD
GOALKEEPERS • Robert Green (West Ham United) • Joe Hart (Manchester City) • John Ruddy (Norwich City) DEFENDERS • Leighton Baines (Everton) • Gary Cahill (Chelsea) • Ashley Cole (Chelsea) • Glen Johnson (Liverpool) • Phil Jones (Manchester United) • Joleon Lescott (Manchester City) • John Terry (Chelsea) MIDFIELDERS • Gareth Barry (Manchester City) • Stewart Downing (Liverpool) • Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) • Frank Lampard (Chelsea) • James Milner (Manchester City) • Scott Parker (Tottenham Hotspur) • Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal) • Theo Walcott (Arsenal) • Ashley Young (Manchester United) FORWARDS • Andy Carroll (Liverpool) • Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) • Daniel Welbeck (Manchester United) • Jermain Defoe (Tottenham Hotspur) Well Walker is injured but i am surprised he chose Jones over Richards but his flexibility maybe have counted. Nice he chose AOC from the Arse reminds me of when they chose Walcott not so long ago. As for Andy "carthorse" Carroll the tournament could make him a better player if he plays but lets be honest here,he is not that good to start with and Crouch would of been the sensible choice. Ok for throwing on for the dreaded long-ball i suppose but i just don't get it,Defoe deserves to go because of his past experience and scoring. Hodgson's gameplan will be known to all and break us down if you can!!!! then we might nick the odd 1-0 win if we piss enough teams off Edited by MrRed, 2012-05-16 20:29:28. |
