I was at Immigration the other day and got my '30 days consideration' stamp for my yearly Non O extension. Can I withdraw the B400,000 from my a/c now or will it be checked again on getting my extension?

I don't want to be caught out, but I have never heard of anyone being asked for it after the 'consideration' stamp. Have you or anyone you know ever been asked for it?

Thanks

JD

Never heard of a requirement to keep the money after application. This IS a requirement for investment visa, but I don't think for marriage visa. I' ve done it for many years already and never had a problem (maybe because I didn't think about this could cause a problem?? Law of attraction... ;-). )

No expert on this, but I myself had never seen or heard of problems concerning this

Prior to the required seasoning period of 2 months it was a problem that often caused delay (until person asked) when a check was made and money not found.  This was taken as a sign the money was borrowed and not owned.  This does not seem to happen now that you are required to show funds in account prior to application for 2 months.

So you reckon it's now safe to go to the ATM then?

Maybe just call immigration (anonymously?) and check with them? They may have the (an??) answer.

Why take the risk? Desperate for money? Borrowed it and have to pay it back quickly?
That would be my conclusion as an immigration officer 'considering' your visa.

For all reports for last several years it should be safe to use the money once application has been accepted.

That said - if I did not need to I would not remove.  Hard to be more than 99% sure of anything and prefer a sure thing.

No, but would much prefer it back in our fixed term account rather than a low interest savings a/c

Why can't you have it in a fixed term account?

I'm also "under consideration" and the answer from the officer at immigration was the same as all the years before "better to keep in account". I guess in case the consideration bounces and I need to reapply. So I'm keeping the 400k there until I get my stamp. Had it there >3months prior to applying just in case they'd happen to decide 3months was needed this time. You never know what they'll ask for next, an adventure every year.

Few years back immigration somewhere complained about an account having no traffic in it, you do have to copy the bankbook so they'll be able to see if it's the same money every year, untouched on an account. It was reported here on TV, I think. I guess it depends on the phase of the moon if they'll want traffic on the account or no.

No traffic on the account is needed, as long as the 400,000 is there and long enough.
But if you don't touch the money, immigration might inquire how you provided for your living expenses. Normally a bankbook for another bankaccount with trafic in it will do, alternatively you can show them your ATM card and some ATM slips to show you have and are spending money.

As long as you can access the money, even when it is with a fine (or lower intrest) it is normally accpeted. What is not accepted is an account where you don't have any access to the money during the agreed term.

After my last application and while under consideration they came to the house to check re-check all the paperwork, take more photos etc.

Seems a follow up home visit is a new regulation so probably better keep the money in the bank till the extension is granted.

I don't think it's new, just rarely enforced. Can't think of any other reason why they'd want a map and instructions to the house (I've used Google Maps to print one out) when applying.

Thanx to everyone for your input and experiences. I think I will just keep in the a/c until I actually get the extension: too much to gamble!!
