BANGKOK: -- Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, a core member of Pheu Thai Party, said Monday she would not run as a candidate in the election for Bangkok governor early next year.

She said she wanted to see a "new generation" candidate take the post, as she thought it was essential to develop the country's potential and competitiveness in the Asean region.

Khunying Sudarat admitted she had approached a person to run in the gubernatorial election, but said that person had not responded. However, she believed the party would be find a suitable candidate.

Khunying Sudarat is one of 111 former executives of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai Party whose five-year ban from politics has expired.

I wonder if the trouncing she received at the polls the last time ran as a candidate for Bangkok Governor influenced her decision.

Sudarat admitted she had approached a person to run in the gubernatorial election, but said that person had not responded. However, she believed the party would be find a suitable candidate.

Suitable indeed, the "let's put a 1,000 boats in a flooded river to have their propellers impact its flow" and "the richest Cabinet Minister" and "let's sell elephant T-bone and lion fillet steaks at a zoo" Science Minister Plodprasob is the name being bantered about.

When she ran for Thai Rak Thai and Samak, then with Prachakorn Thai, doubled her vote count.

Yes. Easily.

One remembers things that occur where one lives much more readily than events that occur on the other side of the world.

Nuances like she was trying to become the first female Bangkok governor make such events even simpler to recall. That she then when on to stay in the limelight for the next six years as one of the main components of the Shinawatra's TRT regime are constant reminders of her earlier beginning.
