I was interested in going down to BKK from CNX in early October, but I heard that last year travel by travel was halted thanks to the floods. Should I anticipate the same trouble and take advantage of Bangkok Airways deal or go ahead with the plan to take the train?

Depends on your finances and if you like to gamble.

Could I afford the plane ticket? Sure, just bought a few. But I'm in no rush to get down there and back, so a one way plane tickets costs the same as 2 ways by train.

Though it isn't a huge amount of money by any means. And it may be a safer bet than gambling on the train tracks being clear...

Just said on the news that the train is cancelled this week due to flooding. Might be ok by October, or might not.
