I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to travel from Ubon Ratchathani Airport to Mukdahan. I know there are private bus/van services that ply the route but my flight arrival time doesn't remotely coincide with their pick-up times. So I guess I would have to get to the Ubon R bus terminal from the airport and catch a bus to Mukdahan from there. Suggestions on how to get to the bus terminal from the airport and what bus to take to Mukdahan are most welcome. I really want to avoid those government buses that stop multiple times if I can. Thanks.

Do you really need to travel from Ubon? Nok Air have an fly and ride service from Don Meuang - Nakhon Phanom - Mukdahan for around B2000. It can be booked online via their website. A lot closer to Muk than Ubon.

Yes, because I will be flying directly from Chiang Mai to Ubon.

I believe that the Ploy Hotel in Mukdahan runs buses to coincide with flights into Ubon. The accept passengers for a few hundred baht even if they are not staying at the hotel.

Taxis are not allowed to pick up passengers at Ubon airport. How did you do it? Or do you mean a private car service from the airport?

Here's the Ploy Palace in MUK, send them an email to check on Ubon pickup possibilities.

They wait outside the airport for a phone call. Seen them parked up many a time.

Yes, I saw them too as I roared passed in a tuk tuk hoping I had not missed my flight after I had called three times for a taxi and after 45 minutes gave up and walked a few hundred metres with heavy bags to find a tuk tuk. Pretty annoying.

Sydneycraig, does the casino have a regular service or just when people call and book?

Is there a bus from the airport to Ubon bus terminal? What was the fare? And how long was the journey from Ubon bus terminal to Mukdahan? Anything interesting to see around the Ubon bus terminal? Thanks.

PS I did contact Ploy Place Hotel. They pick up from Ubon Airport twice a day (early morning and late in the evening) but neither time was close to my arrival time in Ubon. They charge 350Bt which I think is reasonable.

No bus from airport to coach station. Nothing to see at coach station. Ubon to Mukdahan is about 2.25 hours driving safely by car. Probably 3 hours by coach or 2.5 hours by luxury coach. Posted Image
Never heard of Ploy Place Hotel.

WOW, perhaps a cash venture for me here. Posted Image

Never heard of Ploy Place Hotel?

It is reputed to be the No1 hotel in Mukdahan. Been there for at least 22 years. I have stayed there myself but the service didn't justified the price Better lower priced hotels in Mukdahan.

Re taxis at the airport. Still not good enough for visitors. How are they suppose to know one has to walk out 300 m (in the rain) to get a taxi. As soon as this mafia-control situation over taxis at Ubon Airport is sorted out the better.

I don't believe you will find any mafia control that prevents the taxi's from waiting at the airport for passengers.
It is just a rule that probably comes from the military since they control access to the airport. Also Ubon has not had metered taxi's for very long. Before that it was only Tuk Tuk's and a few unlicensed taxi's which probably caused problems at one or the other so they stopped allowing them to enter.

The meter taxi's cannot pick up at the airport. Wattanna has the rights as a taxi and car hire service.
