The Pinned List Of Doctors Needs Updates

64 posts in this topic

A lot of us put in considerable effort to compile the pinned list of doctors and medical staff and whilst we do make the occaisional update to it, I'm concerned that the list is becomming out of date since we're not recieving much by the way of ammendments. Perhaps this is because TV members are not getting sick and going to see doctors but I sense that may not be the correct answer! We've recently added a GI specialist at Rajavej and also the chiropractic doctor, Phillip Parry so we are trying to reamin current.

Can I ask that anyone who has any inputs to the list please let us know via this thread of via a PM? We're esepcially interested to know of new doctors in a range of specialty areas that presently are blank and this includes Podiatary and Cancer treatment. Equally as important is any feedback as to the degree of satisfaction you've had with any doctor you've consulted with - on this point, I already have feedback from three people regarding the poor performance of one doctor and that person will be removed soon.

The list is only as good as we can make it and the degree to which it is complete could be important the next time you become ill, it could make a big difference to someone.

Thanks

PS: Im also playing with the idea of trying to record the cost of doctors charges and tests, if anyone has any input they can provide I'll try to build a table as a guideline for members.

I like your last sentencce of trying to record fees for doctors and tests. I hope people who have been going to doctors or hospitals will provide input on this.

I've followed suggestions on the list and have enrolled with Dr Morgan (GP) and found the treatment and tests etc excellent. Fees are very reasonable and many of the common medicines for blood pressure, cholesterol etc are available at the surgery.

Dr Varaporn (Dentistry - RAM Hospital) is one of the best dentists I've come across, and while charges are probably not as cheap as some others, the quality of the work done is very professional, and the costs are still way below Aussie costs.

I agree, those are two of the best and my favorites also, Dr Varaporn cured my fear of dentistry some years ago and now I actually enjoy going to see her, a lovely lady.

Any idea of the cost to replace a composite filling by Dr. Varaporn? Thank you.

It seems to me the last fillings I had done there ran between 1,000 and 2,000, Dr V. did about four at the same time and they were each priced differently. So, perhaps that's a guideline you can use.

Good idea to take another look at the list. hope the process goes as smoothly as the initial effort.

General suggestions:

• It would be good to see some expansion of the list, especially in cardiology and cardiac surgery. Fortunately, I have not had any experience with either! Also, it would be good to put more complete contact information for many on the list. In some cases, it is not apparent that the docs work not only at their own clinics but in various hospitals. Providing phone numbers, when available, would be helpful.

• Expansion of the list definitely needed in some areas. Very little, for example, for cardiology and cardiac surgery (in which area I am fortunately healthy). Cancer specialist and oncologists need some attention (in which area I am also fortunately healthy)

• I think getting into prices is problematic. Wouldn't try!

A specific suggestion:

If Dr. Gregory Greer is back at work at Sriphat, he should be added to the list. He is a "Family Practitioner/Physician," which is a specialty. A good "GP."

I'm happy with all of that MG, if members want to start providing the detail then we can repeat the previous exersise and expand on all aspects.

I am new to Chiang Mai; have been here almost two months now. My wife just had to have surgery 10 days ago. Her doctor is Suparuek Pongsaranantuk, M.D., OB-GYN, GYN Oncologist, at Chiang Mai Ram hospital. I have no other medical experience here for comparison, but I am very pleased with him, and my wife is as well.

She also saw an endocrinoligist there today, but we have not had enough interaction with him yet to make a recommendation either way.

I will be asking a question on a different thread about prescriptions here in Chiang Mai, but don't want to hi-jack this thread with that.

Hi,

Dr Siri (Dermatologist) - also has a clinic on Thursday afternoon, 2pm-4pm, clinic at Suan Dok - 12th Floor Sriphat building. No appointment needed, you can just show up. I saw him there last month, quite a big queue but I was happy to wait to get expert advice.

He can't do operations or freezing at the clinic at Moon Muang Road, so if you're needing that you'll need to go to Sriphat.

Great list, thanks!

Pete

Right on Pete - he removed a lump from my neck during (after) his OP clinic at Sripat, quite painless and you can hardly see the scar.

As you say, he's well worth waiting for. thumbsup.gif

It may be good to include a Thallasemia specialist as it is seems so prevalent here.

My wife has been consulting with a Dr Taratorn at the RAM for a number of years, I don't know too many details about him but he seems to be very thorough and we have had good results every time.

Another point is that Dr Tawachai on Loi Kroh can surgically remove suspected skin cancer lesions at his clinic and have a pathology report back in a few days reporting the status of the lesion.

Here is what I don't understand:

Some self-sacrificing and generous fellow who had a bad experience with a pediatrician took the time to create and incredibly well-designed Thai doctor-rating site called MyThaiDoctor. When I last saw it, it had been around for a few years and there was no adverting or promotion on it. And it did not seem that many people (at all) were taking advantage of it.

Why? This could be so very useful and consumer-empowering if people would just use it.

Thank you for bringing this site to our attention however, some questions require answers:

I can't get the site to load, if I could perhaps some of my questions would be unecessary, perhaps others can try and comment?

So, does the site cover just Chiang Mai or is it nationwide, the list in this thread is focussed on Chiang Mai and its expat community?

Secondly, is the site truly independant and how can we be certain that is the case. Without even seeing the site I have great difficulty imagining it would be, why, because this is Thailand where very locals do very little for free.

Thirdly, is the list current, we compiled the CM list a year ago and already it needs updating, you mention your list having been adround for a few years?

Perhaps if we can get clarification on the above then we will find a way to make the two lists cohabitate sucessfully, there's certainly no point in reinventing the wheel but lets just be certain that wheel is round and not square.

Perhaps if we can get clarification on the above then we will find a way to make the two lists cohabitate sucessfully, there's certainly no point in reinventing the wheel but lets just be certain that wheel is round and not square.

I tried to log into the MyThaiDoctors (MTD) site and for the second day it wouldn't load, I then did some digging on the web and came across a blog site where the author of MTD wrote a short opiece, in it wrote:

"Hi There,

I’m Sam from mythaidoctors. I sort of lost the interest in the website after moving back to the US. Still I want to update the physician database as the current one is four years old already.

Sam"

So it seems that MRD has largely fallen into direpair and is no longer used as extensively as it might be and that's a shame, let's hope that TV members pull their collective fingers out in the near future so that the same thing doesn't happen to our pined list!

I continue to be nervous about MTD since I notice (from the internet menue) that there's an entire section on Bumrungrad and that smacks of sponsorship, in addition it looks as if the author of the site owns a whole series of medical websites, al of which are fee earning http://www.statmyweb...s/dr.prasertsri and http://website.informer.com/mythaidoctors.com

Finally, to answer the question raised by Bouffant in his earlier post, the MTD site is not used because:

it will not load and is not generally accessible;

it's content is out of date, since 2008;

it is a national list and is not Chinag Mai specific;

there is a strong possibility the list is sponsored and is therefore not impartial.
