Mark,
you are quite right. I fully expect the governments to play down the problem to avoid mass panic. However I think you know as well as I that may cause more problems than it avoids. #53Posted 2006-06-24 08:30:00
One of the products I can say honestly works and is one of the best investments I made is the Ionic Breeze air cleaner by Sharper image. The top end models have a built in UV light that should help reduce the number of virus particles in the air. INTERESTING, because these air filters were shown to be worthless by Consumer Reports. Instead of accepting the report by Consumer Reports, Sharper Image sued them. Sharper Image lost, and it was shown that the research done by Consumer Reports was completly accurate #54Posted 2006-06-24 08:32:25
Well I don’t know about that, but my asthma says otherwise as well as my clients who come in after a smoking client.

John-I',m a little lost on that post about gov playing it down..
The article was them playing it up and its not that big a deal-or did I post the wrong article?? Or am I missing something? #56Posted 2006-06-25 11:34:13
Truth in the news... I was replying only to post #51.
The point is; If you look around long enough, you will find an opinion that matches yours. I assume post #49 agrees with your opinion. What I am looking at Mark is I can possibly agree with you if it was a soloist, but there appears to be a chorus. The people that are saying to be on your toes are not people who stand to make a profit. They on the other hand will be overwhelmed and still making their same pay. Some governments just don’t want to deal with chaos prematurely so they play it down. That is my point. #57Posted 2006-06-26 02:04:17
Thanks John.
Totally agree. You can find anything you want. Thats why studies are less meaningful to me than results and studies should be look at with the laws of nature and inaccordance with nature cause man cannot do better in my opinion. I've found quite a few studies sporting health benifits from smoking. Some really suprised me.. You can certainly find what you want. Actually trhere are studies that show that intention can effect results.. #58Posted 2006-12-17 10:22:21

It is true Thailand has been with the bird flu for 5 years, But I am sure it has changed from the first case. The fact that it is snowballing around the world now suggests to me that it has more chances to change or as put recombine into a monster. I just read that a cat in Germany has died from the bird flu. No doubt it ate a sick bird. I wonder what type of animal could bridge the gap between birds and humans. Whatever species it is it is probably in Africa. unquote i lived up country for more than 10 years. we have a small farm and back then we raised various poultry, ducks, gees jungle chickens, turkeys every year at the beginning of the rainy season the birds got sick and 95% died within 3 days. it was called fowl cholera which is like flu but characterised by white excretia. But not always the case, At other times the birds came down with flu symptoms and died just the same. no bird vaccination was successful and indeed would produce growth abnormalities. After a few years i gave up. the point i wish to make is that, once the flu season had arrived, the entire village would be afected virtually simultaneously and all the birds would be dead within a week. Now we are not cheek by jowl running in and out of each others houses, so it must have been blown around in the wind we didnt know about bird flu then and the net didnt have any info except strange disieases like Norfolk disease etc. As for humans, its also very strange to note a) the flu season starts with the rainy season c) there is no effective defense against catching, you take your chances young and old d) we are in a wide open rural supposedly clean and healthy environment, yet the incidence of fcolds and flu seems greater than when i am in bangkok????? e) local lore says there are 3 types of attack, the 25 hour fever, the 3 day more severe attack and the rare but potentially fatal 7 day type so all those posters who seek to minimise the risk better think again IMHO viz a viz spanish flu which killed a pandemic 100 mill BTW I also heard that Hong Kong has a notoriously unhealthy cold damp climate re colds and flu When i worked in London i would typically contract a flu and a cold and the unpleasant symptoms stayed with me for 3 months. All we crowded in commuters had the same problems - hel_l on earth #59Posted 2007-02-08 20:07:53
Re Bird Flu, it will come or it won't, likewise the seriousness of it if it does is an unknown at this time. I am not overworried at this stage, however that condition could change very quickly.
Interstingly, I have been wanting to import a herb that "may" be helpful against this. Not sure yet if my lawyer is a twit or a thief but initial estimates of tea money to get an Orr Yor is 500k - 1m baht. The herb is harmless and has many beneficial effects. It the pandemic did come isn't it so typical of Thailand that they wouldn't have access to something that might have helped, but greed and corruption gets in the way. |
