Can't we start to do something?????
Start an online petition, send the results to Phuket gazette???
www.petitiononline.com
Just have to rely on word of mouth spreading this, International Hotels, Lonely Planet, Rough Guide etc. Certainly it is coiming more and more to the fore, and you can be sure the Welsh will know all about it when they come now, it is in the news over there.
It's their usual blinkered thinking, stab and nearly kill somebody for a fare (200) thats was well overpriced. End up in police custody and ensure less tourists get in these death traps.
Be sure they will have lost hundreds of thousands of baht through this over the years as most people I know never ever go in them. They won't lose face and admit it, but be sure they lose money in the long term because of their antics.
I am surprised your post wasn't pulled. The Phuket Gazette certainly wouldn't have let a suggestion like this through.
Well done Thai Visa dot com.

Speaking of TukMaf Driver Violence:::
I have a friend who is a local chef here in S. Phuket. He went to a friend’s birthday party in Patong, and had a little too much to drink. Somehow he managed to stumble to the end of Bang-La (TukMaf Central) where he asked one TukMaf driver to take him home. His pasa Thai is nit noi, so he couldn't really say his exact address to the man, so he said, Take me to Chalong Circle, and I will show you when we get there. As the TukMaf Driver arrived at the Chalong Circle, he stopped and checked on m friend. My friend, had "fallen asleep" in the back, and the driver tried to wake him. When he awoke, he realized his wallet had gone missing from the time he got into the Tuk Tuk till the time he arrived at Chalong Circle. Amazingly enough, the TukMaf Driver demanded he pay for the ride. My friend replied that he was missing his wallet, so the driver left to speak with other drivers. He returned with 3-4 men, and then proceeded to kick the living sh*t out of my friend. While this was going on, he told the men that if they took him to his home, his wife could pay them for the fair. They ignored him and proceeded to break his jaw, his nose, dislocate a shoulder, give him a severe concussion, and knock out 2 teeth. My friend is now in intensive care in Bangkok, in fear for his life. When it was over, he flagged down a Motorbike Taxi, bleeding and crying from pain, he asked to be taken home. The driver did so, and was promptly paid in full upon arrival. His wife saw the injuries, called the ambulance, and rushed him to Phuket-Bangkok Hospital. The following morning, he flew to Bangkok where he is going to stay.
He begged us not to involve the police, or the newspapers.
I have the license number.
It is best when served cold.

These drivers are the last sh_t here on the island
Some of your friends should go and have a look for that driver than ask him to go to a nice place, in the middle of the ride stop for some reason and beat the sh.t out of him.
Before leaving set his little red wannabe car on fire.
Hope I don't get a warning now...........

This is just my opinion...
Has anyone considered complaining to their embassies?
Wait....don't shoot me, think about it.
Reporting a Thai to a Thai because you have a problem with a Thai is a "lose lose" situation.
If embassies (and consider how many there are including consulates) get a slew of phone calls, emails, letters or even personal visits it will have a POLITICAL EFFECT. Repeated reports by different folks, be they tourists or long stay residents cannot be ignored.
So many farangs from different countries all experiencing the same problems cannot be a coincidence.
I'll bet 5 baht that you'll at least get the problems addressed by going this route....more so than the results you'll get from posting here.
Just a thought.....
Buckwheat...Loved your other pic...Mate your not OZ are you?? Embassy, He He he...
As If ...
I ride a bike and try not to go to Patong these malignancies serve a purpose I guess but haven't figured out what yet...

Its sickening what these tuk tuk freaks are doing, needs to be a boycott planned or something.
Its suprising how people can think of these twts as 'mafia' as theres no such thing in thailand (at least not in anyway similar to a proper criminal org.) all they are are a bunch of thuggish little bstards who have a plentiful supply of 'victims' who pay over the odds and then they often attack the them for haggling at the end of the journey!

Have to echo all the great comments on this subject and include the silver taxis that race from the airport too!
I recently took a trip back from the airport in one and the guy was talking on his cell phone and driving like a tit and around 120 k's. When asking if he could drive slower and in a safer manner he had the audacity to say "slower will cost more" after I had already stumped up the rip-off cartel inflated 550 baht as it was. I just sat there wanting to smash him into the floor mat.
Trouble is, unlike the Tuk Tuk fares you can't even threaten not to pay as you have to do so in advance. This is the third and last time I'll use these shisters. I'll get the coach next time even if it takes all day. As with everything else here, there's no accountability, no recourse on anything and behind the Modern cars and international hotel facade it really is 3rd world thinking and everything else. Tourists re4ading this thread and considering the place-there's a lot better destinations to spend your hard earned on.........a lot better!

my place of work was putting new plates on their car just a few weeks ago. someone asked why they didnt put green ones on. "because you would then have to drive like a complete idiot" was the only response i could think of.
many times i have been pushed across lanes by these cowboys with no regard for common courtesy whilst driving. lights flashing, horn beeping. i usually ignore them and watch the steam come out of their ears.
i must admit i have a slight tinge of joy when i see a green plate on the side of the road broken down. same goes with tuk tuks. one less on the road is surely a good thing!
whist im here, why do the tuk tuks have to park right up to the kerb, leaving no option but to poke your nose right out into the oncoming traffic?
i saw some tuk tuk drivers actually painting the stripes on the kerb the other day! that just goes to show who makes the rules here.
