#5085621 Cultural Centre & Prasart Museum - Near Ramkhamheang ?

Posted rgs2001uk on 2012-02-25 08:50:12

If you mean the Cultural Centre on Ratchada, get the canal boat from Klong Tan, come out of Nasa Vegas, turn left, heat towards the traffic lights at Klong Tan junction, turn right at the lights and head towards the bridge, the canal stop is there on your RH side.
Take the canal boat to Asok, should take about 15/20 minutes and cost about 12 baht.
Alight the boat at Asok at get the BTS to the cultural centre.

TCC-as above: this is just a theatre, aiming at Thai-related shows etc.
That museum: now even though I consider me a bit of old-BKK hand had never heard of. The map is useful: shows KrThp-Kritta rd-the main rd into Moo Ban Nak Kila-some 7-8 kms away from your apparently favored NASA. Closer to Hua Mahk ARL-but then still 3-4 kms away.  Or course there are buses and red songhthaews too going along that road-even from Ram-but I think coming off RamIX=not bypassing NASA. 10 bt or less. It is a private museum-expect Thai only and a dusty collection of mildly interesting collectables that would easily also pass as a forgotten dusty junkshop or UK-Oxfam store of the old style.
As you state you have been to BKK more times-you must have noted that distance does not mean a thing-there may be a canal or a 12-lane highway in between. Also I do not quite understand your apparent unwilingness to use a taxi-on the meter they cost less as a Londonbusfare.

#5086981 Jomtien Beach/Road - Which Part Is Best For Cafes ?

Posted craigt3365 on 2012-02-25 17:22:44

I walk this area on a regular basis.  Especially nice early in the morning.  IMHO, the nicest part is mentioned above.  As you head towards the beach on Thapphraya, the traffic goes to the left, South, which is Jomtien Beach Road.  To the right is a car park and the road is usually blocked off just past that, making this a great area to walk as there are no scooters and no cars.  Several nice cafes along the way, but not sure any have AC.  Maybe, but it's usually so nice, I've not needed it.  Plus, lots of palm trees, so great shade.  This is true for pretty much the entire stretch all the way to almost the Southern end.

The Southern end has just a small sidewalk on the beach side...usually blocked with restaurants tables.  I don't like to walk that part.  I usually walk from around Chaiyaphruek to the end in Dong Tan and then back.  Great fun.

Nobody forces anyone to take part in any topics. If you can't be helpful or at least civilized, ignore it and move on, rather than whine about what questions are being asked. Some posts were removed.

Turn right at the beach near the police station/7-11 ( Dong Tarn) there are many smaller places there , try the Sea Falcon.

Thailand Cultural Center is a stop on the Subway that lets you off right in front of the Center.
Yes, thats how I know that name but never been there, have you been there ? What's there to see and any other interesting places nearby ?

I live near there but have never been there. I really don't think there is anything to see there unless they have an event happening.

Are you looking for something to see or do with only limited time? If so, what are you into? If you are on the subway then consider yourself also on the Skytrain ... there are lots of things to see and do within easy walking distance from either of these services but Thailand Cultural Center I don't believe is one of them.

Edit: Learn something new everyday ...
The Bangkok Metro has a station called Thailand Cultural Centre. The name is misleading, because the actual venue is a 10-minute walk away rather than directly adjacent. Out of the station, turn right and again at the next major intersection. There are two roads to cross, one by footbridge the other by pedestrian crossing. Signing at the station is not good, but is at the first intersection.  http://en.wikipedia....Cultural_Centre

I thought the city buses were discontinued long time ago. Maybe the floating market have a dedicated bus, I don't know.

Yes Phil, it's a dedicated Floating Market bus.

As for the white songthaews OP you can get them to stop anywhere, just hold out your arm horizontally and flap your hand up and down and they stop to pick you up.

To get off there is a buzzer inside to push when you get to your destination.

Suggest you get a white bus there and the red bus back and then you can post the route.

#5082475 Why Bts & Mrt Stations Not In Google Map ?

Posted Nisa on 2012-02-24 01:35:30

As far as I know they don't show the actual routes but they show the stops using little icons. Look close and they have the icons for bus, mrt and bts stops ... they come up when you are zoomed in at a certain level.

The Siam Society on Asok, just past the Sukhumvit/Asok MRT entrance is worth going to.  Somewhere near Ekkamai is a foundation museum dedicated to the life and times of Pridi Phanomyong, a progressive Thai politician during WW2 and the '50's.

I agree that it is the biggest farce going and really all it is is the same shops you see all over Pattaya just built on wooden stilts in a mosquito infested rubbish lake.

However if you really want to see it then every WHITE songteaw on Sukhumvit is strictly just that, a sukhumvit songteaw and they travel all down frm North of Pattaya to almost Rayong. Just flag one down.
Ok, as long as it is white in colour, hot it, may I know how much is the fare ?
Depends where you get on but no more than 20 baht.

Here is a link to it on some website (http://www.pattayago...com/pattbus.htm), but I really don't know if these Buses still run. If you're adventures you can take a white Baht bus on Sukhumvit, they will pass the Floating Market.
Thank you. See your link but the same page also mentioned the Red Bus has not been seen for some time; and wonder when was that posted ? If only every web pages show a date.

What is a "white Baht bus" ?

I saw the Red bus yesterday with all the Floating Market pictures/logos on so it is still running (perhaps bought by the floating market company?) but no idea of the routes?

A white baht bus is the same as a blue baht bus ...except it is white!! The white ones operate on Sukhumvit and are very cheap, they go all the way to Sattahip, if you stand on the south bound side of Sukhumvit for example at Pattaya Klang junction, 10 baht will take you to Floating market.
As you head south look for the landmarks in this order... Big C, Homeworks, Tesco, Makro, Underwater world, traffic lights at Watboon, Kanyong, Traffic lights at Chaiyapruek (big junction), PTT and you are there - cant miss it!!!!

But i must say....you have been given so many links, directions and maps on this subject, even a blind man could find it!!Posted Image

#5082378 Remote Beach For Sun Tanning - Where Near Or Around Pattaya ?

Posted mstribling on 2012-02-24 00:19:57

Gotta love the guys quoting the rule books huh?

Seriously. I doubt anyone here has any recommendations. Most everyone here is married to a Thai, therefor usually wear jeans and a shirt at the beach.

I think you'll just have to get out and go walking. Shouldn't have to go far.
I wouldn't make a deal out of it. Just cover up with a towel if someone approaches.

Don't go there to buy anything.. Prices are 3 times what you can get them elsewhere in Pattaya.  It is interesting to see, but a total rip off for prices.

Slight exageration but the prices have gone up as high season.  Last time I was there we got lots things cheaper there than in Pattaya
