Thai Alphabet Stamps
2012-05-14 18:16:10
No, it's not alphabet soup, but the next best thing if you're just starting out learning how to read/write: Thai alphabet stamps, available at post offices for a mere 44 baht per set (1 baht per stamp).
The Little Prince, Antoine De Saint-Exupéry

While traveling back from vacation in the US, I lost my Thai copy of The Little Prince. No need to buy a new one, as the Thai version is online, and free, at olddreamz.com/bookshelf/prince/littleprince.html
Enjoy!

Can A Cricket Phone Be Unlocked
2012-03-04 14:10:04
While on vacation in the US our daughter bought a phone for us to use through Cricket. It's a model A410, blackberry style phone, with a label on the back that says "qualcomm 3g CDMA". It did what we needed while on vacation.....but now that we're back here, I'm wondering whether it can be ?cracked? to use locally. We live in Udon. If it's not doable, I'll just break down and buy a newer phone to replace my antique 7year old Nokia. Does anyone out there know if it's worth the effort/expense/or is it even possible?
Paying Hired Help Via Internet
2012-01-04 15:47:35
Our gardener and his wife have a Krung Thai bank account with ATM. They will be watching over our home while we are in the US for the next few months, and we would like to deposit money directly into their account while we are gone.
We have an internet account with Siam Commercial Bank, but when trying to transfer money into a 3rd party bank, SCB sends a one-time password via SMS. As we'll be in the US, we won't have access to our Thai mobile number SMSs during that period (or, is there a way?).
We have an account with Krung Thai (not yet internet-enabled), but the staff there said we'd be faced with the same SMS problem.
So, the question is: Does anyone know how to transfer money from an existing Thai bank account (we have accounts with BB, SCB, and Krung Thai, but only the Krung Thai is currently internet enabled) into a 3rd party's Krung Thai bank account?

Cherry Picker, Thai Term
2011-10-25 14:58:16
I plan on asking the local tetsabahn to trim some large coconut trees that line a lane that comes into our property. The trees are on public property. I'd like to know the Thai term for a cherry picker....a truck that has a hydraulic lift so workers can safely trim tree branches high up.
I believe part of the term is รถเข็น but there's more to it. Anyone?
