New Bus Terminal For Chiang Mai

As frequent users of the CM Arcade Bus terminal we returned yesterday from Hua Hin and noticed a considerable amount of building activity opposite.One building,nearer to the Highway appears to be either accomodation or offices but to the right, as you stand with your back to the Terminal another large building. It was said to us ,by the taxi driver,that this was to be a new adddition to the Bus terminal complex .Anyone have any information? I think anyone who uses the current terminal would agree its well past its use by date ,dirty, crowded and during busy times,somewhat chaotic.

Australian Dollar Slumps

The Aus dollar fell a full cent today against the greenback. Speculators saw the Japanese nuclear problem and consider the US$ and Japanese Yen as "safe havens" and Aus as a risky investment. Seeing as we have minerals,the world wants,still in the ground and not going anywhere I thought the opposite would be more likely.

Christmas Lunch

Well Christmas is closing in on us.What is it about 8 weeks away? We usually have lunch at home but this year have a few visitors so have decided to eat out.Based on last years offerings what's available for a lunchtime venue. Not necessarily the cheapest, or discounts, just a pleasant atmosphere with a reasonably priced selection.

Immigration Act ,Section 38,To Be Enforced

The long, dormant, requirement for hotels and gueshouses to notify Immigration within 24 hours of the names ,nationalities etc of guests is to be enforced and fines for non compliance. Yes yet another crackdown. Of course by the time Immigration receive the information those concerned have probably moved on or on a long distance bus or left the country. I was wondering today how many establishments would this entail in a city the size of CM let alone Bangkok. Anybody know the CM figures ?

Planning to spend a few days in this area but finding the web sites not that informative. Hoping for a sheltered beach so we can do some snorkeling. Smallish hotel/resort preferred. Did spend a few days, 2 years ago, at Bang Saphan but the ocean conditions were pretty choppy.Any personal experiences would be most welcome.
