New Taxi Scam In Ho Chi Minh City
2012-02-17 19:19:33
Well after 40 years of asian travels it has finally happed, picked up a taxi from bin thanh market to take us to the hotel, caught a normal liveried taxi ,like the ones we have used for years, noticed something strange when we headed for cholon, told the driver he was going the wrong way, he pulled over and sprayed us with cs gas, while we were helpless he robbed us and pushed us out of the taxi,a passerby came to our aid , he also tooka photo on his phone of he taxi rego, when the police arrived , they told us the taxi rego was fake it only had 3 digits instead of 4, and that is the only difference to the genuine taxi livery, so be careful out there folks

I had the vague thought that this centrelink decision might affect some australian aged pensioners living or thinking of moving to thailand, obviously it clashed with the way the mods think

Have just got back from Centrelink Toowoomba after recieving this letter this morning, they made it clear in no uncertain terms, that if we leave australia for more than 13 weeks in a calendar year our aged pension would be cut to the lowest possible rate which would be for a married couple 411$ per fortnight which is 50% of our normal rate and after 12 months our house here in aus would be deemed an asset, and also any amount more than 1000$ in an australian bank account must be declared for deeming, I dont know how this will effect expat pensioners already living over seas

While no stranger to travel in asia, by air, rail, bus and motorbike, mrs nig has set her heart on a spring holiday in HCM city, I was there briefly in 1965 and 1993 but now we are both disabled pensioners, can get about on sticks ,dont want to take our wheel chairs, we have coped with bkk and chiangmai many times , but getting information about disabled friendly tours, hotels , carhire etc. is almost impossible, can any of you vietnam expats give us any tips or recommendations, we would treat you to a pint or two in town in february
