#5329601 What Os And How Much Ram

Posted Richard-BKK on 2012-05-25 07:46:46

The whole thing of 32 vs 64-bit, with the current CPU's, is a bit misleading. The processors from Intel and AMD have only 64-bit memory addressing. The code they run is actual still 32-bits.

The Intel Itanium processor architecture (also called IA64) is a full 64-bits processor, but is not capable of running 32-bits x86 (also no x86-64 code) software. Currently the Intel Itanium processors have moved to the second generation, but production cost prevents this to be a consumer product anytime soon.

Back to the question 32 or 64-bits operating system, if you use not that memory and you have enough with 3.25GB memory (4GB installed) than run MS Windows 7 32-bits as it's faster at most regular tasks. If you do many big tasks like convert movies to DivX or rip DVD's for a living you maybe want to think about much more memory and a 64-bits version of the operating system (maybe even Linux as that is even faster than Windows in media conversions).

#5304521 Red-Shirt Pavilion Burnt Down In Songkhla

Posted sbk on 2012-05-16 11:14:15

It woudn't necessarily have to be any political party involved at all, as noted by bendejo, the Shinawatra family and the Red Shirts are less than popular in the South. Considering the fact that this is widespread knowledge, the motives of the red shirts in the South do seem questionable.

#5291476 Chalerm: Those MPs Left Out Of The Cabinet To See Thaksin

Posted EyesWideOpen on 2012-05-11 13:37:43

Sometimes I wonder if there is a Thai word for irony.......Yingluck keeps insisting she is deciding appointments, and yet wannabe MPs keep flying over to see Thaksin.  Hmmmm....  Reminds me of the old adage that if you want to know the truth , pay no attention whatsoever to what a person says, and pay very close attention to what they do.
Thaksin's role in this government is rapidly moving into the theater of the absurd.  Imagine a corral area, with a feeding trough in the middle of it. A bunch of pigs are lined up at the feeding trough happily eating. But outside the corral are more hungry pigs lined up wanting to get inside to the feeding trough. Thaksin's role seems to be one of gatekeeper at the corral gate, as he is deciding which of the pigs outside get to go in and start feeding.....
I actually love living here in Thailand, it is the government I detest. They are a true millstone around the necks of wonderful Thai people...

Cricket is booorrriiinng! Posted Image

The wonders of cricket are obvious to those who understand it

There are over 1 billion cricket fans in the world

For those who do not understand it, I feel nothing but sadness

By the way, I put together one of my best ever innings in your home town of Manchester, if you had been watching that day, you would love cricket (and love me too probably)

Take away the Indians, you may have 20 cricket fans left. Posted Image

#5287595 PM Yingluck Expects Goods Prices To Fall Within Few Months

Posted OzMick on 2012-05-10 09:47:52

So the goods that weren't more expensive now are, but some are cheaper, and some that are more expensive will be cheaper soon. Meanwhile to make things look better, the government will involve itself in retailing undercutting normal margins and even selling at a loss (because its only taxpayer's money), and artificially lowering the cost of essential services (again subsidised with taxpayer's money) to grant the false impression that things are great with Yingluk.

Also we shouldn't put personal responsibility on those making idiotic statements, because it's the system's fault for allowing incompetents into positions of authority.

No Whities are charged more because it is possible not for racist reasons.
Racist would be to charge Whities more because they don't like Whities. But that is not the case.
It is more that the people who can be charged more are usually white skinned.

Actually many Thais do not like us, but take our money. I know a Thai Chinese guy in Pattaya that owns a resort. When the farangs come there they think he is the nicest guy in the world. He is super friendly and actually spends most of the day chatting in English with the farangs staying at his place. But the ugly truth is that he spends most of time expressing his hatred towards farangs and gossiping about them. He has said many times that he likes our money but he hates us. I know this because we know two slaves....errrrr....staff that work their and not the real person that he is...a racist jerk.

If I lived & worked in the Pattayatourist industry I'd hate most of the Farangs I'd come across.

#5277651 Red Shirts Want An End To Military Coups: Thida

Posted volk666 on 2012-05-06 13:43:04

I watched Abhisit being elected as PM live on the TV, every MP cast his vote, Pracha Promnoke, PTP backed candidate, voted for himself. In the end PTP lost and Abhisit became the premier. Every MP voting in that election was duly elected by the people.

As for the coups - here's a memorable article from 2009, a few months after the first red uprising that failed to dislodge Abhisit's government:

Gen Chaisit backs military coup

Former army chief Chaisit Shinawatra said on Saturday that he would support another military coup if it can help the country get out of political crisis.

“The coup-makers must settle social division, create the right path for the country and return power to the people as soon as possible”, Gen Chaisit said.

The retired general was responding to the prediction by Jatuporn Prompahn, a core leader of the pro-Thaksin United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), that there would be a military coup while Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva visits the United States late next week.

Gen Chaisit admitted that he had just returned from visiting former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He said Thaksin is now happy doing business with foreign investors but still wants to return home to stay with his family.

Don't expect red shirts to distance themselves from him anytime soon, no matter what Thida says, she is just "wenging".

Bottom line - despite all the rhetoric those guys oppose coups only when they are on the receiving end, one would be extremely naive to believe otherwise.

Even in this interview Thida is supporting "fighting with weapons" if things don't go their way.

#5259241 PM Yingluck's Advisor Virabongsa Calls For Hike In VAT

Posted otherstuff1957 on 2012-04-29 12:17:45

3% inflation? Posted Image    If that figure is per quarter, I'll believe it.  If that's the official inflation figure then the Thai government is taking a page from the US government's book of tricks:  excluding some of the necessities of life from the inflationary index in order to fool people into thinking that things aren't really as expensive as they really are.
