Google'S Chrome Browser Now The Web'S Most Used Browser
2012-05-24 17:49:43
Google Chrome has been long expected to leapfrog Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) to take its position as the Web’s most used browser and, according to data from Statcounter, the momentous change of leadership happened last week.
Statcounter’s findings give Google a double win, after the analytics site found that its mobile browser — Android Robot — had leapfrogged Opera to become the most popular option for mobile-based Web surfers in March.
Measuring the Web is an imprecise science, very often based on scaling up small scale measurement surveys, but the gist of Statcounter’s data over the last year indicates that Chrome use is rising of Chrome at the expense of IE and Firefox, regardless of the exact precision of the data.

Thai Lady Boy Beats 200 Other Women In Modelling Contest
2012-05-19 17:20:24

The beauty who beat hundreds of women to final of modelling competition revealed to be a man
BRIGHTON, U.K.: -- Thai lady boy Angkookrat, known as Toon, was one of 200 'women' to enter the Brighton's Next Hot Model contest.
Shy Toon sailed through the preliminary rounds, wowing judges with her deep brown eyes, long dark hair and slimline figure.
After being given the green light by every member of the panel, the Lady Boys of Bangkok star, 26, revealed that she was born a man.
Organiser Scott Woolgar said: "During the selection process it did not cross any of our minds for a minute that she was a man.
"I know a lot of judges showed pictures to friends and family to get a bit of help and nobody twigged.
"When we were deciding who to put through to the final she was on everybody's list. Everyone thought she was one of the prettiest girls.
"The competion is based on approach, looks and personality and Toon has all of that. It is about beauty pure and simple regardless of whether Toon was born male or female.
"We believe beauty is more than skin deep and would be honoured to have Toon in our final."
Bangkok-born Toon, who has performed with the popular touring show for three years, will go head-to-head with eleven fellow finallists on the catwalk next Friday (May 25).
If she is selected by the six-strong judging panel, featuring modelling star Sophie Anderton among others, she will win a trip to Dubai and the chance to star in her own professional photo shoot.
Leggy Toon, who is mid-way through the group's nationwide 'Carnival Queens' show, is still listed as 'male' on her passport, which still features her birth name.
Toon said: "I feel humbled to make it through to the final and to be recognised as a woman.
"I'm excited and nervous about how hard it will be to win the whole thing.
"I saw a couple of beautiful girls when I went to the heats so I know there will be lots of competition. I wil try my best to win."
Lady Boys of Bangkok artistic director Phillip Gandey was proud of his star's achievement:
He said: "It seems like they didn't realise Toon was a lady boy but our lady boys are so beautiful that every day people pass them on the street and don't realise these girls were born as men.
"Brighton's Next Hot Model says it is looking for hot boys and hot girls and wehink Toon is a great contestant."

PHUKET: -- Phuket Provincial Police Commander Chonasit Wattanavrangkul this afternoon confirmed that 173 items have yet to be recovered from the jewelry and gem heist in Phuket yesterday morning, despite police having three foreigners in custody.
The missing valuables are estimated to be worth about 5 million baht, he told a press conference at Phuket City Police Station today.
Presented to the press today were Mexican national Ruben Dario Zapata Gonzalez, 40, and Roslina Binti Abu Bakar, 42, from Malaysia. (Click here for our earlier report)
The third foreigner arrested, a Turkish national named by police as Riza Balkan, 49, remains in police custody in Trang province, where the gang were arrested after the car they were travelling in failed to stop at a police checkpoint.
Highway Police manning the checkpoint gave pursuit and forced the car to stop.
Officers searched the vehicle and found most of the stolen loot in luggage inside the car, Maj Gen Chonasit explained.
One Mexican woman, named by police as 57-year-old Mejia Zuluaga Maria Asseneth, managed to flee the scene, he said.
Police believe Ms Asseneth to be central to the robbery and she remains at large. She may be heading south to Thailand’s border with Malaysia.
A warrant for her arrest has been issued, said Maj Gen Chonasit.
Mr Balkan is apparently being held by Trang police on a drugs charge.
The driver of the vehicle the gang were fleeing in, an illegal taxi driver in Patong, has not named by police and has yet to be charged with any offenses.
Police are still questioning him, but at this stage believe he is innocent in terms of the robbery.
He failed to stop at the police checkpoint while under duress from the thieves, it was explained.
Thongsak Chintakarnroek said that about 450 jewelry pieces have been returned, but 173 pieces remain missing.
“The missing pieces would be worth about 5 million baht,” he confirmed.
Commander Chonasit added that the gang are also suspected of a similar jewelry theft in Bangkok on April 29 this year.
“They have denied the charges, but they will be charged according to the evidence we have against them,” he said.
“We are still questioning Mr Gonzalez and Ms Abu Bakar as to the whereabouts of the missing jewelry,” the police commander added.
Mr Thongsak praised the quick action by the police.
“I really appreciate what the police have done. We are so lucky to get the jewelry back,” he said.
