Sondhi Limthongkul ? Still not in jail for defrauding investors and tax authorities? How come that a man with his background can be quoted. He is the first that will feel the torn of the reds and any other who see that the Thai courts are corrupted to the bone.

Quote

(Reuters) - A firebrand media mogul and leader of Thailand's royalist "yellow shirts" protest movement was jailed on Tuesday for 20 years for securities fraud, but immediately bailed on appeal.

The Criminal Court sentenced Sondhi Limthongkul, who led protests in 2005, 2006 and 2008 that undermined two elected governments led or backed by ousted former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, to a total of 85 years in prison, but commuted the term twice to 20 years.

He pleaded guilty to signing false documents that allowed his Manager Media Group to seek bank loans amounting to 1.1 billion baht but was freed on bail pending an appeal against the sentence.

Do you notice the difference in the handling of his case/s?

Thaksin got 2 years?

Firing an RPG at a temple is half as bad as fraud?

Sonthi was also shot at 84 times. Does this count as punishment, or simply a random occurence?

This really shows how narrow the vision of the UDD really is. Everyday people are killed, maimed or injured in Southern Thailand in a wave of unrest triggered primarily (but not exclusively) by the massacre at Tak Bai mosque (which incidentally no one from the then ruling government has been held accountable for - uncannily similar the 2010 unrest in Bangkok) and the UDD moans about a crappy building being burnt down. What a way to show your solidarity with the suffering people of the South.

Perhaps if the UDD started to pressure and demand those in charge [both at a governmental and military level] at the time of the Tak Bai slaughter to be brought to justice and face criminal charges at the ICC (like they demand of abhisit and suthep) they would get more votes in the South and then they wouldn't have to build pointless pavilions.

Tak Bai was a human rights crime of the worst kind.Thaksin was PM at the time but nobody suggests he was involved in or directed the operation. His comments afterwards were however crass and an honourable man would not only have taken responsibility for the army's crimes, but perhaps resigned as well. The comparison with the army's human rights crimes in 2010 is however misplaced. The ruling politicians, Abhisit specifically, were very closely involved with the army's suppression of the redshirts.

Incidentally the army senior officers involved in the Tak Bai killings have been brought to trial. They were tried by the Songhkla Provincial Court and found not guilty since they were just doing their duty, and in any case could not be held liable because they were operating under an emergency law at the time.

Nobody suggests he was involved? You must have a short memory, the last time you tried to sell this lie you were helpfully corrected by Ballpoint. It might be worth taking 5 minutes to re-read his post 195 in this thread.

In Topic: Listeroid / Lister Engines - Where Can I Find These Engines In Bangkok?

Apparently "Yanmar" is a locally made clone, exported overseas as well.

Yanmar used to make low rpm engines here for marine/industrial use, no idea if they still do but modern day Yanmars bear no resemblance to Listers.

I have 2 old Yanmar variants on a Lister. 16hp and 2 cylinders with a very low rpm. Heavy though, they weigh over 300kg a piece(with marine gearbox). Beautiful engines, happy to chug along all day without missing a beat. The huge flywheels seem to make them very smooth runners. All parts are readily available from Chong Tek Seng in Bkk but nowadays most parts are cheap chinese copies.

Lots of these old style engines for sale in the engine yards in bkk. lots imported from Japan. Not cheap though, I paid 13,000B for a 40 year old runner but in need of work.

FWIW there are lots of youtube videos showing the Indian made listeroids in operation. They just dont look anything like the standard of the good old British originals.

Rather than the continuous "denegration and besmirtching" of Thaksin by an "agenized" press...etc etc. extended BS

Must admit im missing Ferwert/Calgarys surrealist posts.

But seriously, does this topic not underline a huge double standard? Post coup MP Surayud had to bulldoze his house after it was found to have been built on national park land 20 years ago? Thaksin essentially steals land donated to a temple by and old lady, builds a golf course and housing develpoment, and its ok.

Now who was it, that was so against these double standards?

Thanks for the replies. Yesterday 28hrs past the bite i took antihistamines and the gradual decline stopped, this was getting quite serious with the fingertip starting to blister although it bit midfinger, and the constant buzzing pain. This morning was much improved and now it feels fine, just been playing some guitar at the beach bar lol

This was a sandy coloured beast, there are many of them at home here at koh tao. After lots of googling its 99% certain that these small scorpions are lychas mucronatus, prevelant in SE Asia. Very unpleasant, and being stung by an adult is nasty. Twice stung before by smaller versions which hurt for a couple of hours, this was so different.

Thanks again, I'm good now.
