UK passports have been coming by courier from HK for over a year now, and any Immi officer should know that. Sounds like your's was being deliberately obtuse, maybe rag week?

You might be right. She was not the same lady I usually deal with...

As my passport is full of stamps I have been looking into replacing it.

It would appear that although the application will be processed in Honk Kong the actual new passport will be dispatched by DHL from the UK not from Honk Kong as cited in more than one post on this thread.

At the most basic level if the Police (Driving about) and Immigration police (Shall we say getting an extension on marriage)  do not enforce the statutory laws, in order to personally profit from their position what hope have you got?

Is the farang sophistication of this thread a bit overdone (or should I say misplaced?) ?

Either you have the rule of law or you do not. What do you believe the case to be in Thailand ?

Why do people keep asking about absolutes  (i.e. what happens if?) ? They do not exist.

  • No. For children, visa requirements are the same as for adults.
  • No. The cheapest visa, a tourist visa, would have been OK and no paper work from the school is necessary for this.
  • No. There is no overtime fine for children below the age of 14.
  • No. They need no paperwork from the school for a one-year extension as dependent of a parent, but since they are not subject to overtime fines it is not essential to make these applications.

It is certainly not true that in practice a baby is required to have a visa, although I cannot recount the wholel story in detail off the top of my head, my Finnish friend who has a baby with his Thai lady (I am not sure if they are legally married) which has a Finnish passport was told a similar story as that recounted by the original poster. He has brought the baby a couple of times to Thailand without any visa and has not had any problems at all.
If I were the original poster I would go to the local immigration office to put your mind at rest, and in fact Emirates were at fault by not permitting your babies to board the plane as no visa was required for them.

A tourist visa can be extended at any imigration office in Thailand, including in the Isaan.

As said, only the Thai embassy in London can issue a O-A, the cosulates in the UK can only issue a non-O visa.

Not according to this :

CHANNELS TO SUBMIT VISA APPLICATION AND FEE
1.  Applicants can submit their applications at the Royal Thai Embassy or Royal Consulates in UK and
Ireland.
