Teachers who are going for the non-immigrant B are routinely turned down if they do not either have the police clearance or the receipt that an application has been made.

Is that a Thai Police clearance you are talking about?

Quite a few consulates (especially in home countries) do not require. Embassies are always stricter though. Our experience of the Thai embassy in Laos is that they list a police clearance as one of the requirements on their website but do not insist when the application is made. I know quite a few teachers who obtained non-imm Bs there and they didn't show one.

This was cut and pasted from a post on TV a few years ago:

Thai Police Clearance Instructions:
Police Clearance Service Center (Sub-Division 2, General Staff
Division, Special Branch Bureau)
Monday to Friday (Except Public Holidays), from 08.30 am . – 04.30 pm.
without lunch break.

Location
The Police Clearance Service Center is located at Building 24, Royal
Thai Police Headquarters, Rama I, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330
Phone number: 0-2205-2168-9

Directions
The best way to get to the Royal Thai Police Headquarters is by taking
BTS to Siam Square station. The entrance is located on Rama I Rd,
halfway between Henry Dunant and Ratchadamri Rds.

Documents required (foreign applicant)
1) Passport with two photocopies of first page and two of the current visa page
2) Document(s) certify that the applicant is working, used to work, or
is residing in Thailand (Non-Imm B or job offer should be enough)

Notes
No charge for the police certificate itself. They will fingerprint you
and take your picture while there. If you want the certificate mailed
to you, you’ll have to pay a fee for postage. Otherwise, you can pick
up the certificate in about 2 weeks.

Schools deposit salaries in one branch of a particular bank. All of my previous employers insisted I open an account at a particular branch. I always assumed that inter-branch/banking wasn't possible. transfers are possible but cost money and require staff time to arrange. I've had around 5 different accounts over the years.

A teacher at a school I worked at a few years ago refused to open an account at the bank the school said. He wasn't paid.

For the school there are advantages to opening an account at a Government bank which include a higher indemnity guarantee. The current government introduced lots of incentives for companies to switch their deposits from private to government banks. I guess the Shinwatra family may be benefiting in some way. Possibly it's also an attempt to undermine the banks associated with the power clique preventing Thaksin from returning home.

^ Sorry, I think there's some confusion... I was on about how the MoE/CHE give accreditation to a particular course (like the BA TESOL) once they have approved and accredited it?

So TSC should have an official document from the MoE/CHE that's been stamped, and given an official license number for this particular BA?

Does every degree course has a specific accreditation/licensing number, that's given once it has been approved?

As I understand things, and my experience was a few years ago, the curriculum for a course such as the BA TESOL needs to be approved by the MoE. When approved, a letter is issued by the local MoE office that gives a registration/accreditation number. If curriculum are approved as part of the original school license application, they are part of the original school license document. I have absolutely no reason to doubt Bruce has approval for this course. I imagine though that the documents are held by Thongsook College which makes it very difficult for Bruce to walk in and photocopy them or even obtain registration numbers. I think he should though and publicize on his website because people are going to continue asking these questions otherwise.

The BA TESOL is probably an attachment to the college's original licence. The attachment's registration is identified by a series of numbers and letters written in Thai. That's what you need to give to the MoE.

And the MoE respond and give accreditation by?

(stamped document? Course License Number? etc.??)

A piece of paper with all of that. You can frame it if you want to.
