#5310911 Thai Police Arrest Brit With Foetuses For Black Magic

Posted Thai at Heart on 2012-05-18 15:04:48

There is a clinic upcountry next to my local baker that has foetuses in medicinal jars on display in the shop window.

Knowing that foetuses are sometimes kept in Thailand for shrines and the such, I don't see his crime as that heinous. You can say how distasteful it is that this is the case, but nonetheless, it is the case.   I doubt he was killing women to harvest them.  It is no doubt a bizarre thing to want to buy, but I don't presume that he was the one carrying out the abortions or harvesting them himself.

There are other perpetrators in the list who have carried out the operations and even more worryingly actively sold them.

#5305199 Pound Hits 50, How Long Will The Trend Last?

Yoshiwara:

"I agree that the baht has until recently been seen as over-strong and maybe the government thinks there is sufficient slack for them to push out the boat, but they are not the brightest bulbs around and I would be betting that they are going to overshoot with escalating inflation. With Europe doing a wobble and the US going loopy the next few months I think the pound looks like the cleanest shirt in the dirty laundry basket. Long term though I really like the Singapore Dollar. Sorry I didn't do something about it when it was 3 to the pound."

The Baht has been seen to be overly strong recently, it has been overly strong, hence if there are capital outflows at present that will be of benefit to the BOT.

Agreed on SGD although it moves with USD so any strength is dependant upon a US recovery.

W11Guy:

I don't think this is about FOREX trading and how much money anyone has made or lost, I think it's about having some sort of grasp of economics and an understanding of some of the factors involved. Perhaps you remember a similar topic a few years ago when posters were suggesting it was only a matter of months before GBP/THB would be back at 70+, the lunatics and dreamers were in a feeding frenzy on the idea of it, there's still a few around, even today!

#5304704 Pound Hits 50, How Long Will The Trend Last?

I think the real let down is that they have just found another Mayan Calendar that actually proves that the world is not going to end in December 2012.  Lots of people have squandered all of their cash in Thailand on wine women and song in anticipation of the apocalypse, and I for one am extremely peeved and annoyed at those bloody Mayans for  teasing us.  No manner of favourable exchange rate is going to extrapolate me from the financial quandary I find myself in.  dam_n those Mayan be-atches.

I need to send for some money from my UK bank in the next few days but I know that as soon as I press the release button on my internet banking the pound will fall. I have the same effect on the weather - when I clean my car it always rains etc.
Anyway, I am quite prepared to wait awhile to allow all you people on TV to do your transactions at 50 baht to the pound providing enough of you put a 1,000 baht note in an envelope and send to me. This offer will last until Friday when I can guarantee the pound will fall after I press the button. I will hold back while you keep sending me money !!

And now she's the large one "at large."

who in their right mind would leave that kind of money in a car overnight? I also wonder how they knew it was in there.
this reeks of a scam, I don't believe it was random.
Where did you read it was left in the car overnight?

Now if only the thieves could break into some of the jewellery stores that rip off the farangs.  I'd laugh at that.

Bloody hell Posted Image

I suppose one should append the work 'allegedly" until the guy is found guilty but he does sound a nut-job (if he did it).

Judging by this photo he's not the sort of person you'd want to chat to in a public place either.

#5277611 Homeless Farang

Who really cares? I've seen homeless Thais but I've never seen anybody start a thread about them...
Most of them (the Thais as well as the Caucasians) strike me as being good-for-nothing, lazy bums.
Given the choice between working or living off of others they choose the latter.

Oh, and the counter argument that "farangs" aren't allowed to work in Thailand is a pretty lame excuse. I'm not Thai and I work here (legally).

What a bitter nasty uneducated post! I doubt very much being homeless is a career choice! And I care as I see many others do on the forum!

#5212445 Songkran Revelers Have Started Traveling Back To Their Home Provinces

To the people who supported me when I said I would give any Farang who threw water at me a sore face, thank you very much, to the ignorant Farangs who think it is OK to assault people who do not want to participate, by soaking them, fukc you all, because that is what it is, assault. You would not throw water at strangers walking down the street in your own country, so why do it here? If you want to participate with other Farangs who also want to participate in the celebrations then good, I honestly hope you have a good time and enjoy yourselves.

Pretty strange post again, to be honest!

You wouldn't throw water in your origin country, as there's no Thai New Year to celebrate, right?

I'm living here for ten years and I love this celebration. Songkran in my hometown is always very funny and foreigners have an equal right to receive cold water when it's so hot.

Should foreigners here carry a Tattoo on their forehead saying that they participate in Songkran???

My suggestion for you is don't travel to a country where people are doing such weird things.

It's like loving Brazil, but not the carnival.

P.S. Hope your supporters are still with you.........Posted Image

BANGKOK — A French tourist has been killed in an overnight fire that engulfed an illegally operated budget hotel in one of the Thai capital’s main tourist districts.
Police say the fire started at a bar on the ground floor of a three-story building in the city’s Khao San Road neighborhood, an area popular with backpackers and budget travelers. Five tourists escaped but a 27-year-old Frenchman was found burned to death.

ALWAYS check the hotel for fire escape, extinguishers and fire proof materials, even more so in Thailand where regulations are not enforced.
I used to be ignorant in these matters before, but was lucky enough to survive the Santika nightclub inferno 3 years ago. Now that have seen fire spreading in seconds rather than minutes, I am much more careful where I go and stay.
I suggest all travellers do the same. Don't assume things are as safe here in terms of fireproofing, because it's not and will never be.
