Runs about 50k a year for a 60 year old. I think you need to have it if your country doesn't have a medical program you can return to if you have to (like the US). Bupa won't let you sign up if your over 59. There are alternatives.
That sounds like the platinum plan = 2 million baht cover. There are cheaper plans with less cover value. I think you can sign up after 59 but but cover stops at 65 if you where 60 when signing up age, if 59 when start they insure for life. There are no claims discounts on offer in following years.
Yes, there are way too many variables to answer the OP's question here. He needs a good insurance agent to sort this out for him.

I have my two kids and my partners mum and dad covered with bupa, not the best and certainly not the worst covers for 55k for the year, they even gave us the option to pay in installments per month.

#5314180 Phuket Party?

Posted westsail on 2012-05-19 17:00:37

I'd prefer to hold the party in Patong or Kamala.  I reccomend the Ex-Pat.

If some people want to bring their kids and some don't want kids there, I suggest that it starts in the afternoon with kids allowed until a specified time.

I suggest Carlsburg for a sponsor.  They've been doing a lot of promotions in Phuket lately, and they make a great beer.

i think its bamboo hut on the road past cheers bar just before pineapple apartments ......lhs ........

thanks for that cdmtdm, i always forget that road...will head up and take a look...

Yes just next to Pineapple. They are closed on the 13th & 14th every month. Too many Bamboos. The cafe is or was run by one of the girls from Don's Cafe.

That makes 4 ex Don's staff. Bamboo Cafe, Moos, Kates and now this Bamboo Hut next to Pineapple. Don must have done something right to have 4 ex employees go into the restaurant biz.

#5290800 Jealous German Skinhead Knife Killer Caught In Khon Kaen

Posted TallGuyJohninBKK on 2012-05-11 10:12:54

Seems like this is a true tale of Thailand...with all the necessary elements at hand.

No one deserves to die, so may the lady RIP. But it certainly seems she was quite the United Nations outpost in Thailand -- first a Brit, then a German, then a Frenchman, then back to the German, then back to the Frenchman...

Add in excessive drinking (by the German), excessive gambling (by the lady), infidelity (likely by all involved), and combine all that with a little dose of Nazi skinheading.  Sheesh!!!

Just another reminder to check your heart at the door whenever you encounter Thai women in bars.

Odd too, because they had a reverse story just a couple months ago...

#5280793 Good English Breakfast

Posted seaeagle on 2012-05-07 18:04:22

Following a recent recommendation here, I'm now a fan of the breakfasts at Wine Connection.

Even if not a buffet, it's a fair price - 154 baht. And the chance to relax over a decent cooked breakfast, with the newspapers, is a great way to start the morning.

Gone are the days when I could whip out my PADI open water divers certification card when asked for my driving license and get waved through (sigh).

#5132766 No Will

Posted petercallen on 2012-03-14 08:07:24

Its quite common for a family member to come to Thailand
to take possession of assets if they can
I have an Australian will stating all assets in Thailand go to my wife
My wife already has bank accounts in her name, also she knows my ATM pin
Although i do not use the ATM card but go into the bank to withdraw money
the daily amount can be increased to 200K baht a day
She is the owner of the land but i have a lease on it which is easy to change
The new pickup when we get it will be licensed in her name
A bit of pre planning stops family greed if you have that problem

#5129375 Crackdown On Land Owned By Foreign Residents

Posted rotorbreeze on 2012-03-13 01:30:49

What about the Thai wife whom sold property with out my knowledge, forged my signature to sell house, forged my travler's cheques without my passport present at Bank in Roi Et and stoled my savings....I got little response from the law here in Thailand...years went by with lawyer taking my money...nothing came out of it...so where is the law...does not exist here in Thailand. Crack down is cracked up... I know of another fellow that is going down the same road but he will come to the reality that Thailand is not a place to invest in property or any future indevours one might have a likeing to do.

Why would the properties be in her name???
ummm i would hazard a guess and say that it might be because Falangs arent allowed to own land in Thailand....just a shot in the dark of course

You are right.

It appears that the land was in the woman`s name but as usual bought with the farang`s money.

Than it seems the woman decided to move on to pastures anew with full control of the assets in her name.

So the farang took matters into his own hands and bumped her off to protect his interests.

As the wise man says; when will they ever learn?
This might be the case or not. I have no idea. But I will say this. Anyone coming to this country buying land, building a house and putting it in his GF or wife's name is commiting a great risk of loosing it all down the road. I will probably get replies of all these perfect long term relationships and that is all well and good. You're lucky. I have been here for seventeen years and not one time done this. I have rented houses the entire time for an average of B10,000. You say foolish guy you have lost B2m for what. Not the way I see it. Sure I could have bought land and built a house and maybe in a few years the missus decides to kick me out. Everything is in her name. I would have lost more than seventeen years rent has cost me. Too risky for me.
To each his own.

I agree, better to rent than to own.

#3926177 Warning About Wires To Kasikorn Accounts

Posted asiawatcher on 2010-10-03 23:32:22

K Bank is fine for international transactions - the problem appears to be the amount as it it 0.25% or 500 Baht maximum - 500 Baht on 5,000 is 10% correct - but had you sent 50,000 Baht it would have still been 500 Baht thus your argument holds no ground and you have no common sense to understand banking!  Plumbers charge a call out fee and banks charge a transaction fee!  If you get charged $30 call out for a plumber and all you needed was a tap washer for 30 cents you get the real story here.  Sorry - go back and do your sums and next time don't try and test a system that works for people who have the common sense not to transfer petty cash!    What - you were supporting a bar girl?  Posted ImagePosted Image
