Any police chief that stands by and allows corruption to continue on the level that it does in Thailand, is not doing his job.
A police chief that turns a blind eye to corruption should immediately be sacked.

From what you have said, the money is not staying with the in Laws, it is just for show.
My suggestion would be to pick yourself up 10 nice shiny new £50 notes in UK.
Take them to a printer in Bangkok and get them copied 20 times each.
Take them to the village. have show and tell.
Any dishonest relatives that try to pocket one will get what they deserve if caught.
Do not try to spend them...
When you are ready to leave the village, burn the money.
Tell them you have plenty more back in UK, and cant be bothered carrying it.

Hi Pat,
If you do want to sell the land, try not taking the piss out of people who ask questions about it.
What sort of land is it is a valid question.
Is it a rocky outcrop on a hillside, only good for raring goats?
Is it a rice paddy?
Is it in the middle of a village or 10 miles from the nearest town.
What sort of title do you have on the land?
Link to a Google map showing land and location would be handy.
Give us some information including a price and someone may be interested.
Telling us we cannot afford it we have to ask the price is not very intelligent.

The boy must get an Australian Passport.
If he tries to travel to Australia on a Thai passport he will need to get a Visa.
A person who is an Australian Citizen (the child) is not eligible for any Australian Visa.
He will therefore be told by the embassy if he applies for a Visa, that he cannot get one.
If the father tries to hide the sons Aussie Citizenship, it will be pretty difficult to explain why they are going to Australia.

In Topic: Hau Hinn To Phuket, How Many Hours Drive ?

Hua Hin to Phuket is a comfortable days drive. About 7-8 Hours depending on traffic, how many stops you make and how fast you are driving.
About 650km from memory.
I usually went Hua Hin to Prachuap and down to Surat Thani, (route 41)
Then take route 401 to route 415 and follow the signs to Phuket.
You can go down to route 44 from Nong Sai.
It is about the same time wise as the previous route, a bit further, but a much better road.
Not a lot to see on the way.
