There is also a (theoretical) category for Permanent Residence based on 10 million Baht investment, but I have never heard of anybody successfully applying for that.
They do seem to 'grandfather' the earlier applicants. I was very interested in the 10 million PR, but all my queries in the immigration seemed to fall on dead ears.. The PR category is ON their list, but they seem adamant it DOESN'T exist.. It is on the list..can i apply> NO ?!? Which is dissapointing/confusing ! Wonder if anyone ever applied, and got PR on that category..

I'm thinking about having mine shipped to KL, then get a vehicle visa and drive it across the border from Malaysia...
Actually it is a very easily doable option, as long as you don't mind doing "visa-runs" with your car every 30 days.
There's NO 'vehicle visa' ! but when you show up @ thai border Sadao, you'll be let in for 30 days, just have your ownership papers with you. Don't listen to LivinLOS , no problem teprorary entering Thailand as a turist on ANY foreign car..really thought of doing it myself, but monthly border runs from Bangkok didn't seem fun ! Btw. i did used my malaysian car this way for a few months around 7-8 years ago, as i say, the only trouble is you need 2 take it out of the country every month.

Well if i could vote, i would vote for Taksin, because i live here and have my future in this country.. Why do most foreigners support Abhisit?!? because he's British citizen>>no matter how hard he denies it.. What makes him better than Than Shwe of Myanmar,, at least they don't make the show out of "democratic elections" .. U lost get out.. But it is a sad day, because we all know how "the democrats" here treat people's choice, when they loose..

Condolenses to all those perished. But what really makes me sad are all the comments (also in other threads) about speeding ! It is the lack of speed, that creates all these accidents ! Imagine overloaded truck uncapable of doing more than 30-40 km/h overtaking some Moron, that travels even slower ! I have driven over 100,000km in Thailan, and other SEAsian countries, and comparing to Europe it is those idiots doing 30-50km/h in the inner lane of so called highway that are causing most of the accidents.. AFAIK the speed limit on thai roads is NOT 50 km/h or slower.. how many cars are travelling withing 10% of the limit, as they do in Europe ?!?
PS; btw. i am yet to see a speeding bus here, as none of them are capable of exeeding 100km/h .
