Frustrating with the Nuvi 40 that it only has the THAI map installed and not the english version and does not support Dual language maps.  Otherwise its good value.
At the time of purchase I was asked which language, Thai or English, I wanted the unit set up with.  In my case English was the desired language and therefore my Nuvi 40 was made ready in English.
It just seems a matter of uploading the chosen language software, which can be changed at any time but not at the switch of a button; you would have reload via your computer.

Today I returned to the Garmin Showroom and bought the new updated Thailand map version 12.1 on a CD.
They even uploaded it for me and checked my Nuvi unit.
I haven't tried the new maps yet but assume it will all work ok.

The new map was 450 Baht.

I'm sure you both are talking about TSM V12.2 as I have installed 12.1 already for about 6 months.

Just for clarification, I have just checked the latest CD and the map uploaded on my Garmin Nuvi and it clearly states Version 12.1/2012.

I also bought the newly advertised Garmin Nuvi 40 for my other half; an entry model with surprisingly good features with a 4.3" screen for 3,990 Baht.
Again, the latest Thai map uploaded on the new Nuvi 40 is also version 12.1 / 2012.

The maps on the new Nuvi 40 also include Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore.

Somehow there seems to be confusion on the correct number for the latest map for Thailand.

Hello Pipo,

Your explanation seems correct.  I have never used the Garmin City Navigator for S.E. Asia.
I have always been happy with the Thailand Street Map.

I will report my findings in a couple of weeks or so.

Thank you.

Are you referring to Thailand Streetmap V. 12.1 (current)? And perhaps V. 13?

It seems like these have been ~ yearly: Oct/Nov for the past few releases?

I refer to the Thailand Streetmap; V. 12.2 or V. 13 ??
I must say that I was surprised too that an upgrade was due again so soon.  I too had Oct/Nov in mind.
However, it seems to be April this year.
I will report when I have made progress in the matter.
