For those of you who might be interested.....
I went into the Garmin showroom - service center in Sathorn Nakorn Tower, Bangkok last week, in order to have my Nuvi 200W updated with the latest map (Oct. 2011).
The lady in the showroom advised me to wait until around 4 April (2012), as the latest updated map will then be available.
How acurate is her statement ?? I don't know but I am prepared to wait and give it another try around early April. I only live up the road from the showroom.
I will report my findings.

Bamboo Poles.
2011-06-30 23:32:11
Dear Forum members,
I am looking to obtain two or three Bamboo poles of 3.5 to 4 meters in length. I wish to use the poles to be tied to the underside of my boat-trailer.
My boat, together with the trailer will arrive in a 40 feet container at the port of Laem Chabang, from the UK later this year.
In order to get the boat - which sits on its trailer - out of the container, it will need to be lifted out of the container from a height of about 5 feet and could be done with 8 people or so. Because there are very few holding points at the back of the boat or on the trailer, (see picture) the Bamboo poles would be fixed/tied length-wise to the underside of the frame of the trailer and as such create additional points by which lifting the boat and trailer would be made possible and easier.
Therefore, the poles need to be thick/strong enough to support the total weight of the boat and trailer, which is 230 Kilos all together.
Does anybody know where in Pattaya I could go and have a look around to get poles of this kind ?
If obtaining Bamboo fails, I have considered scaffolding poles of the same length.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Re-Entry Visas At Suan Phlu
2011-04-24 00:54:38
For those in need of Re-Entry visas, Suan Phlu still issues Re-Entry visas on Saturday mornings from 8.30 until midday.
I went this morning - 23 April - I arrived by 8.10 am. Nobody was allowed into the building until 8.30 am. Once the door was opened by some miserable Immigration officer, chaos ensued!! There was a total lack of organisation, no English was spoken by the miserable man who kept shouting at people; nobody understood what he was trying to say or get us to do, until somebody was brave enough to translate. He wanted all of us to sit in rows and then present our applications row after row.
It was a complete joke and absolutely chaotic. No instructions of any kind in English; no numerical system as they used to do.
All you need is a completed form TM-8 plus one photograph. Also put your telephone number on the top; they made everybody do this.
No need for copies of anything else.
I got my re-entry visa in 40 minutes.
One other thing that has changed is that the entrance for re-entry visas has changed to the back of the building, instead of what used to be the main entrance. As you walk into the compound by the main gate, go straight to the back of the first building.
Good luck and keep your sense of humour when you go !!

90 Day Reporting By Post.
2010-06-18 23:33:15
Hello Everybody,
Whilst at Cheang Wattana Immigration last time for my 90 day reporting, I asked the Immigration Officer if it was possible to do 90 day reporting by post?
The kind lady handed me a photocopy of a list of requirements and the procedure to follow.
My 90 day reporting was due today (18 June) so, on 07 June I posted the required documents, including a stamped self-addressed envelope by registered mail to Cheang Wattana.
To date I have not received anything from Immigration. I am beginning to wonder whether I should head to Cheang Wattana on Monday to report in person, as I would have 5 days grace. Of course I do no longer have the original reporting slip, as that was sent to Immigration on 07 June. I do have a copy of the 90 day reporting slip and the post office receipt for the registered post to Cheang Wattana.
I wonder what advice members would give me with regard to this problem?
