Warning About Web Security

2012-05-03 13:13:58

I keep getting repeated warnings from Trend Micro about the URL widgets.amung.us/a_pros.js since the site came back online after maintenance. The Risk Level is marked as Dangerous. Prior to maintenance there were no such warnings and so I could log on at the office.

Is there any way this can be resolved?

Down The Garden Path

2012-04-04 18:01:54

I have a patch of garden at the side of the house which is approximately 3 meters wide by 8 or 9 meters from front to back. I originally dug out sand and rubble (it is a house in a new devlopment in Bangkok) to a depth of 40cm and then refilled with topsoil. I threw a few stones down the middle about 40 to 50 cms apart so I could walk across the garden without getting muddied up. Unfortunately, this has not worked. The small circular paving stones refuse to stay in place and after a heavy downfall, mud gets splattered everywhere as the water runs straight off the edge of the roof down into the garden (there is no guttering on the side of the house). I have, thus, decided that I need an uninterrupted path across the middle of the garden underneath the edge of the roof but am not sure how to go about it for the best results. Should I:

1. Dig a trench across the garden down to the sandy rubble base, place bricks or stone on either side of the trench to act as holding walls and then fill up the trench with a decent coarse - or not so coarse aggregate?
2. Dig a shallower trench than 1. above, but follow the same format? This would mean that the aggregate is on top of say 20cms of earth.
3. Clear a very shallow trench, fill in with aggregate or sand and then lay paving stones over the top, with no gaps between?
4. Say "eff it", and just lay paving stones directly on the earth with the only prepping being making sure that they are level, then go inside and have a beer?

Any other reasonable suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.

Work Permit Change Of Home Address

2011-11-25 12:26:26

I have searched the forum but cannot find an answer to this question.

I have changed my home address (not work address) and need to have this change updated in my Work Permit. Do I have to fill out any special forms or can I simply turn up at the Labour Department to record the change? Do I need any evidence of such change of home address and if so, what?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Extension Of Stay Report

2011-07-28 16:00:33

Earllier this week I filed for an extension of stay and was greeted with yet another surprise. I am working in Thailand and have the requisite work permit, however, my extension of stay is based on marriage not work.

Last year, for the first time in 22 years of extensions, I was requested to provide a copy of my house rental agreement. Supposedly, this is because my wife's house registration document is still linked to her hometown but we live in Bangkok. Okay, so I have the document in hand and a copy was again requested. No problems. But this year I was also asked to submit photos of my place of work. This has never been asked for before so I was not prepared. Also my extension is based on my wife not my work. The officer was very nice about it though and mentioned in passing that document requirements seem to change every time a new chief is appointed. It is as if it is at the discretion of the new boss.

Anyway, the missing photos will be submitted in the next day or so.

Tot Bicycle Swap Market

2011-07-28 15:18:00

I noticed in a local English language newspaper (not The Nation) a small article on this bi-monthly market located at the TOT headquarters on Chaengwattana. Has anybody been and do you reckon it is worth a visit? The reason I ask is that it is across town from where I live and quite a trip only to find it not worthwhile.
