When I went for my yellow TB I was told I had to be in Thailand for a continuos 6 month period.  Is that true?

The 2008 Civil Registrations Act made it compulsory for district offices to register (with a tabien baan) all foreigners residing in their district but there is no definition of "residing" in the Act.  Perhaps a definition of 6 months' continuous residence has been introduced either through ministerial regulations or independently by your district office to avoid wastage of issuing books to tourists.  The only way you can double check this is by contacting the Local Administration Dept at the Ministry of the Interior which controls district offices.  However, local district chiefs may have the authority to impose their own definitions and checks.
Thanks,

I will follow up on that when I return to Thailand

khman,

Please consider the people you want to "help".  While yours is a romantic and noble intention, the reality of it will be something different.

A suggestion;

Ride a motorcycle up into a Hill Tribe area.  Stop at a market. Buy a bottle of water. Sit and spend a few minutes quietly watching the vilage.  What do you see?

Ride on, again.  And, spend an entire afternoon repeating this.

Now, how can you "help" these people?

Immediate communication will require their language.  And, their day is spent in hard work.  To, put food on the floor.  A "night" stay by you is, at best, a disruptive burden on their life.  What can you "exchange" that can offset this burden.

Reality is you help them more short term by buying the bottled water.

But, if you are sincere in wanting to help the Hill Tribe people, then look for schools while you are riding up.  And, stop.  Teachers in these school will welcome English speakers to talk with the students. You may find it a rewarding experience.

Best wishes
Good point, even better - spend a few nights in a remotish village when the drinking and screaming starts and see if that is what you are dreaming of.  From what I have experienced they are not too interested in people interrupting their routines

I spend 6 months out of the year in Chiag Saen (Yonok) not quite Khong.  I love the area, small village communities rice fields, fish and chicken.  Also close enough to Mae Chan and Chiang Rais so you do not feel too isolated

Sorry for the lack of updates but there is really nothing to complain about with this build. ( from my side, the builder is complaining that the will not make much though Posted Image)

My wife gives me bi-daily reports and I have a chat with the builder.

The render is finished as is the ceiling and they are painting inside and out with quality Beger, tiles are being laid, soil (20 truck loads) is being brought in to start the landscape process.

Still cannot get a photo and await the builder to send to me.

Completion date now 30th, an expected slip of 3 weeks
