I'm trying to decide which model Cooper to buy. I look at the Samsung brochure and see two choices are available for the 3G bands.
edit here
S5830 3G 900/2100 Mhz and S5830L 3G 850/1900 Mhz
I live in Phala near Banchang and currently True has the only 3G game in the area so that would suggest the 850 band phone is the one I should choose. But later when and if AIS updates the area to 3G I may want to change.
I have been reading about using a service code number to get into the phone service mode to add or change an active band for 3G.
Does anyone have experience with this feature on a Samsung phone and more specifically the Cooper?
Any and all info here will be helpful
Thanks

Truevisionstv Subscription Refund
2012-03-03 17:06:31
Just thought I would post something positive about Truevision TV and the service.
I had been a subscriber for over 5 years both in Pattaya and here in Banchang
I stopped my service back on 24 Jan 2012, effective the 24th. Notified True via email earlier in the month. Received phone calls asking me why and would I choose to stay on with an incentive of some free TV for a few months. I declined all offers as I was switching to another Sat system.
It took about a week to get the Rayong rep to come to my place to get the box and dish.
Within a week or so of the removal of the dish and box I get a notice in the post from True that I will receive the 2,000 baht refund check within a month of the this notice.
Just today I get a EMS registered check from True drawn on Citi Bank BKK for 2,000 baht
So, I guess I lead a charmed life or True is really not as bad as some folks make them out to be. I stopped the service due to wanting to save some baht not because of poor service.
I can definitely use the extra 2K
If anyone asks I now have one of those Sat systems we cannot discuss here on TV

I am looking at this model and they rate the display as one of the brightest on the market. Anyone have this model and care to comment?
Biometric Passports
2011-11-30 12:39:53
I just completed my 90 day report here at Rayong and two things were noticeable to me.
First thing was the new printed receipt with the bar-code. This is my first report of this type. When I handed in my usual pre-filled in TM 47 the IO took it and my passport and went directly over to a computer, input some data and a minute later he printed out a document, cut off the bottom section/receipt and promptly stapled it to the inside front cover of my passport.
Second thing is I have read somewhere that it is a big no, no to staple anything to either cover of the passport especially the back cover as that is where the micro chip is installed.
So, any feedback on the bar-coded receipt? Do I still need a TM 47 on the next report? Or will they just scan this bar-code? Also staples in passport covers? I see several holes in the back cover of mine from previous paperwork. Maybe Immigration needs to refine their procedures?

Moving Usd To Los

I will throw this question out to the local experts.
I was chatting with a fellow American the other day and the discussion came around to getting money to LOS from the USA. We both are retirees and have US bank accounts and we both have Siam Commercial bank (SCB) accounts. We discussed methods of transferring cash from the US to LOS.
He went on to tell me he has been using a method that I had never considered before or heard of anyone using. So I figured I would post here for some discussion.
He takes a personal check from his US bank writes the check using his name on the payee line(basically writing the check for cash) He deposits this check in to his SCB account and waits the 3 or 4 weeks for the check to clear and the cash appears in his SCB account. He has been doing this for a couple of years with no issues.
I realize this method of waiting for the cash is an issue for some but with some planning this can work for those of us just moving cash to replenish an expense account.
The question I posed to him was about any fees involved for this. This is where it gets vague. He claims there was only a small fee for handling the check of about 10 baht and no conversion fees.
I post here to get any comments to learn if anyone has done this and what fees you paid. This method has some interest to me if the handling fees are as low as he states. I will be asking the branch manager of my local SCB about this and what fees are involved.
Write a personal check to yourself and deposit to you're local Thai bank.
Did the local bank here lay out a guideline as to what should appear on the Payee line?
How much did you pay the local bank for handling this check?
How long did it take to clear?
Did you're US bank give you any issues with this?
I'm sure there will be many comments here so please fire away.
