In Topic: Wife Name Change Anyone Eperienced This
Yesterday, 12:56
I really hate it. Something to do with evil or malevolent spirits not being able to find you if you change your name. Not only did she change her name - she also changed the names of my kids! My brown pick-up truck had a sticker saying - this vehicle is red - I learned also to confuse the spirits. You will find name vehicles with similar stickers (but in Thai language). Ask your partner to spot them for you.

Many tribal people know a third language. Aside from their tribal language - e.g. Akha, or Lahu or Yao, many know Thai and Mandarin. I know of one village where around 80 of the village population speak Mandarin. Perhaps, the OP might want to learn Mandarin instead of Teaching English INTO a Tribe.

This is like drinking beer without fizz.
This is like eating melted ice cream, cake without icing, steak without gravy, etc.
IT IS JUST PLAIN WRONG!!! WR@NG

Dos the OP honestly believe he has his wife would make a difference staying ONE night with tribal people "teaching" them English? I believe his expectations are overly optimistic.

I find this kind of visit rather disturbing. It is as if the visitor has nothing to learn from the villagers. You will leave the village without really learning anything if you spend your time teaching them English. I suggest you keep your mouth shut and listen to their stories for a change. You would have to travel with local guides who are respectful of tribal culture. Otherwise, I suggest you do not even attempt to visit tribal villages. You are more likely to destroy their already threatened culture than help them.
