#5122467 Govt Raps WSJ Criticism Of PM Yingluck's Thai-Language Speech

Posted volk666 on 2012-03-10 11:44:37

As someone said earlier - they should have sent an e-mail, would have left a better impression on Japanese than watching her talking for seven minutes to them in a language they don't understand. This is just dumb, boring,  and extremely unprofessional, even rude.

And her main point was to convince them to put trust in her promises that her government can protect their investments from flood? She should have at least made those promises in a language they understand.

It doesn't matter what her supporters feel about this - what matters is the effect she made on Japanese investors, and from another report it appeared they were not convinced even before this episode.

Govt. raps WSJ criticism of PM's Thai-language speech, #1^

A little Opposition mischief making again?

I suspect so.

In a backhanded way trying to diminish Ms. Y., knowing full well British born Abhi's language proficiency.

To highlight this little tidbit - a seven-minute speech for heaven's sake - says it all.

".............during her visit to Japan, after an article in The Wall Street Journal criticised Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's decision not to address the audience in English.

Complaining about not speaking English in a Japanese forumn....a bit of a reach.

For this 'diminishment' to have traction, it needed English language as the put-down.

"Thani also questioned the reporter's motive in writing the article. "I sincerely hope this is not the direction to be taken by a respected newspaper such as yours," he concluded"

This gets at a question of  who's "motive"?

It is well known by many, that the foreign media socializes and lives in the world of the Amart, when in Thailand.

They have little understanding of the mostly unilingual world of the PTP/UDD/Red Shirts.

As a result, for example, when speaking to Europeans politically astute contacts, who nevertheless follow their domestic media reports on Thailand, it is often like talking to PADites.

So this instance of a foreign reporter dumping on Ms. Y, indicated to me he/she is following the impulses of her buddies.

"The report also noted that US-educated Yingluck could have chosen to speak in English. "It could be, though, that Ms Yingluck wasn't entirely confident in English. A video of her greeting visiting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Thailand last year by saying 'overcome' instead of 'welcome' got heavy play on YouTube," wrote the reporter.

And by inference, the unspoken agenda is to drive home the point that our buddy Abhi, wouldn't make this mistake.

Forgetting the little fact he couldn't win a Thai election, if his life depended on it.

So the PAD controls whats written in the WSJ? You need to take the tin foil off and step into the real world.

#5119625 Deputy PM Chalerm Vows To Bring Thaksin Back Home This Year

The veteran politican called on the media to understand and give justice to Thaksin by claiming that the ex-premier “did not commit any offence but instead happened to do what the law prohibited”.

Priceless.

#5120197 Thai Traffic Kills Another Swede

Posted daninthai on 2012-03-09 13:06:21

Thai drivers seem to have no respect at all for riders of motorbikes. Why? Because if there's an accident, they can always carry on driving. Too many people here have no consideration for the well-being of others. Thai Rak Thai is a joke. I've seen families tear themselves apart over stealing land and money from each other. Thailand isn't a failed state, but it is a failed society.

#3903480 Thai Immigration Introduces Jail Time For Overstayers

Posted Colabamumbai on 2010-09-24 08:05:19

Lets just pretend for the sake of argument that there were never any overstays allowed ever in Thailand. The day that you have to leave is the day that you have to leave, the idea of letting you overstay was surely based on monetary necessity by the powers that be, not in doing you some kind of favor or giving you some kind of leeway.

Why give an amnesty - if you overstay then you have broken the law. You do not do it accidentally you set out to do it so take the punishment. I am all for the law being applied fairly and firmly. A period in the slammer would at least go some way to making sure these people do not do it again but I think it should be a day for day punishment overstay 50 days then 50 days inside. Blacklisting is pointless as it only ensures that the passport does not return to the kingdom it does nothing to stop the person getting a new passport and re-entering under a new name etc etc.

As soon as Thailand does something positriver everyone thinks they do it for money - well I can asure you that most countries have strict immigration laws and they apply them - Thailand tolerates foreigners and we should never forget we are mere visitors in the kingdom and should act accordingly.

Put them in the slammer day for day.

#3896920 Resurgence Of Thai Red Shirts Causes New Concerns

Posted Robroy on 2010-09-21 12:36:41

More propaganda.

The Thai elite has sequestered most of the nation's resources to itself.

Poverty exists for the many, in the face of porcine indulgence for the few.

The redshirt campaign is a response to that, not some mindless anarchist campaign.

If the reds could throw Thaksin overboard it would be very helpful. Being both violent and corrupt, he is clearly part of the problem, not the solution.

This is the main problem with Thais. They think they know everything, and if they know they dont, they blame us, or dont want to lose their stupid "face" by admit they dont have a clue or that somebody might help them..

Nobody should tell a Thai how to do anything...

Such an intelligent comment, Don't try to find a solution to a problem, just get rid of anyone that criticizes
anything about the country. With a mind set like yours, Thailand will remain a second world country and
unable to sort out even the most basic problems that arise.

Think long and hard. If that is what you want, and you don't think you will have a problem explaining this to your children, then hire a good attorney and go start the process with the police. Like it or not, she has committed a felony, and a serious one. The consequences will be just as serious and you need to be prepared for a court battle that will likely involve some very ugly times.

The last thing I want is to take her to court and see her in jail.  For all the bad things she has done and is doing I still love the girl but that cannot overrule the everything.  I have tried to reason with her and get paperwork from her but she seems to want to do the opposite even though it might result in sorting out at least one or two of the properties.  Yesterday I went to the restaurant to pay the staff from the week or so they worked last month and found a new set of gates bolted and a For Sale sign outside.  my wife had told me the amount owing and said the interest was all payable as a lump sum at the end together with the capital.  I asked the lender why they had locked up the restaurant and they said read the contract (all in Thai) which says interest is payable monthly.  My lawyer had told me also it was all rolled up at the end and included in the sum on the contract.  I told them I didn't want to fight but was quite prepared to if reasonableness didn't prevail and that they had better have a good hard look at their contract since the interest charged was illegally high and they had signed for the amount paid - not only that but that the contract in its form only provided for repayment of the principal without interest.  I them asked if they wanted to be more accommodating and they decided they would be.  I will pay what was agreed because that is the way I am and in any case the less enemies you make here the better. So I have a little more time on the restaurant.

My 'wife' rang me this evening. I explained calmly that she must tell me the whole truth on what is owed when and what interest is due and when on all these loans so I can try to mitigate the position for both of us - I used simple words but her response was to let me hear the baby say daddy daddy daddy and then turn off the phone.  Sound familiar?  Childish and stupidly self-destructive.

It seems despite all my efforts she just wants to obstruct everything I am doing to help the position - I cannot imagine why.  I was a good husband - at least for the last 6 years - she has been half way around the world and had a good easy life never working.  What would make a person behave like that I have no idea.  She obviously doesn't care two hoots about anything including herself.  Doesn't leave me with many other option THAN to take her to court really - however much I don;t want to.

ooh ooh.

you starting to play the blame game.

most of us think it was you who deserves the  majority of the blame sir.

you mentioned she wasnt a bg,   what was she if she had such an ez life and neber worked?now im thinking theres a whole lot more you not tellin us.     whenever the story is so one sided things start not too make much sense.

mrdumdum what a rediculous comment "most of us think it was you who deserves the majority of the blame sir."  How could you possibly know what other people think. I doubt very much you even know what you are thinking.

#3873353 Brave Behind Your Anonymity

Posted rachele703 on 2010-09-10 01:31:23

This is a quick note for all you posters who seem to get some kind of kick out of purposely trying to harm the sale of Tuskers and for trying to run down a number of local businesses whenever the chance arises.

Well done for being so brave - you really are big men, sitting behind your computer, using an anonymous name and making snide comments just out of spite. While everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, some people have clearly used the opportunity to get ‘one up on us’.  If we have been so awful to you that you can’t think of anything else to do other than trying to jeopardize the sale of our business then please let me know who you are and what we’ve done. If you’re simply doing it because you just don’t like us, is that a really fair fight?

You know us, you know what we do and you know why we’re doing it.  I have no idea who you are, what you do or why.  Tell me your names, what you all do and then let me have a vicious conversation about you on an open internet forum – then we might be playing on an even keel. Does running a business (whether you like it or not) give someone else the right to get personal and nasty about them on a public forum?  Personally, I don’t think so but then I respect other people, their privacy and their right to make their own decisions.

The details of the sale of Tuskers are no one’s business but our own and those of a potential buyer. The vicious comments by anonymous posters this week has caused unnecessary stress to me and my baby. You have no right to do this.
