My girlfriend often drives over here in UK .Car used is part of a fleet insured all drivers over 25, and she has been confirmed as a driver with my insurance agent. She brings a IDP just in case. She is a very good driver in Thailand having done more than 200000km in 5 years in our pickup with no claims. She also used to drive her fathers 10 wheeler trucks with hydraulic trailers carrying crushed stone into Bangkok daily from U Thong when he was short of drivers.
She found our motorways easy and soon got to grips with roundabouts though she is still wary for a while each time she comes over here.

Koh Chang can be very wet at that time of year but you may be able to get discounts on accomodation. Its likely you will get some dry days though.I have the choice of a pickup if its raining but prefer a motorcyle if its dry. With a family its 4 wheels for sure. Its not for the faint hearted! I've seen some of the worst driving in Thailand on the Island on occasion. Its still one of my favorite places and spend as much time there as I can.Check out Iam koh chang website for lots of helpful info
