The thread is still making interesting reading although off on a tangent from time to time. In view of this I would like to recommend that for those who haven't seen it, you look at the movie/documentary "Inside Job", narrated by Matt Damon.
In a nutshell, how the financial meltdown happened due primarily to a totally unregulated investment banking market in the USA and it names names and also has some interesting interviews. Well worth a watch to anyone who wants to know a little more about how we got here.

Pay a little and go to see a local lawyer, and take all of the paperwork with you as well as another farang who understands Thai. Surely that's the only way that this is going to be sorted out satisfactorily, despite the excellent help of the posters above, especially TommoPhysicist who seems to be most knowledgeable on the subject.

Whilst on the subject of dengue fever, I had it a couple of years ago, with the usual symptoms as described above. Not pleasant and very draining, however what I have not been able to ascertain is whether there can be any longer lasting effects??
I say this because every so often I get bouts of extreme tiredness which last for a few days and this is something I've never experienced before and wondered if it is one of the ongoing effects of dengue??
I believe this sort of thing happens with the epstein barr virus so thought it possible with dengue..........any answers out there, or folk with similar experiences??
