The Thai Police is very much concerned about Thais using/selling yabaa and ice - nationwide. Just look at the morning news on TV. Same on Samui, many Thais are getting arrested for drug issues.

Well said, theDukes.
Basic rule is: 8 hrs per day, OT to be paid, 6 working days per week and 13 days off per year
To add:
Don't hire ladyboys, they are only making problems
Don't hire a group with same family/village background. If one of them wants or has to leave, you will loose the whole group.

Phuket is more expensive than Samui but on both places you can find good hotels / restaurant / bars for a fair price.
BKK Air is a real pain in the ass for expats here in Samui. I work sometimes in Phuket together with a guy who comes from Bali by AirAsia. You guess who is paying more for airfares..
Last year the Bali guy bought 10 tickets Bali-Phuket for 160 USD return while standard fare is 300 USD return.

Normally you should have a phase protection on your DB. This will trigger if over- or undervoltage occurs.
Question is: Will it trigger fast enough to protect your equipment.
Price: 1 phase 1,000 THB, 3 phases 2,500 THB (add costs for a magnetic relay, 1,000 THB).
Every swimming pool pump is equipped with this.
You can also buy a "safe-t-cut", very common in Samui.
The cheap UPS might be too slow to protect.

RIP.
Drown in 12" deep water after he announced suicide to his thai GF. These kind of stories makes me sick.
